This splendid barn conversion boasts a wonderful sitting room that makes a great area for everyone to get together in. The gardens are fabulous and include a secret garden in among the rhododendrons. There are also two neighbouring houses allowing several families to stay on the same site in separate houses if required.

Lamplugh is the perfect starting place to explore the fells, rivers, lakes and tarns of this beautiful part of the Lake District. There are a variety of walks right from the front door, or Loweswater Lake is just 3 miles away, with Buttermere and Crummock just a mile or two beyond. In the opposite direction is Ennerdale Lake with its forest walks and mountain biking.

For shops, Cockermouth (10 mins) has a Sainsbury's as well as a wide variety of smaller independent shops, pubs and cafes. The Kirkstile Inn at Loweswater is renowned throughout the Lakes for the quality of its food and ales. This 400-year-old pub has excellent food, open fires and its own brewery, and has been awarded the CAMRA Pub of the Year for West Cumbria and Western Lake District.

The main living accommodation is upstairs with a sumptuous living room which has a dining area to seat 12 in style. There are a variety of board games for entertainment and a widescreen TV. This is a light and airy room with chandeliers, comfortable seating, fantastic views and a large dining table which easily seats 12 (or more if you wish).

The kitchen is also upstairs - it is fully furnished with an electric, ceramic range cooker, two fridges, freezer, dishwasher, and microwave. There is also washing machine, tumble dryer, iron and ironing board in a small room off the downstairs hallway.

Downstairs, the spacious hallway leads to two double bedrooms, one twin bedroom, a bunk bedroom, a bathroom and an additional toilet. The bedrooms each have their own basin (with the exception of the bunk bedroom).

Upstairs is a further bedroom with a double bed and en-suite shower room. There is also an additional twin bedroom plus a bathroom with separate shower.

The property also has  games room with a pool table and table football.

The garden is large with a big chestnut tree to provide some shade in the summer and conkers in the autumn. There is also a secret garden which opens out to a hidden BBQ area over one of the bridges across the stream (please remember to bring your own BBQ with you). There are many small nooks and crannies and plenty of outdoor furniture to help you enjoy the beauty of it all.

We have stayed in these 3 properties in Lamplugh as a large family once a year, for over 16 years now. They are great for a big family get together, beautiful safe gardens with lots of places to play - paddling in the stream, the hidden garden and massive lawns, also great to relax in with the rear garden being really nice and sheltered. The 2 laRead morerger houses connect together which is really convenient, then the smaller one is separate. All are spacious, comfortable and homely, nothing to fancy so you can all relax rather than worrying about lots of fancy ornaments etc. A great location in a quiet part of the Lakes. Can't wait to be back again next year. Hide

The cottage was very comfortable, spacious and in an excellent location. I would love to return in the spring or summer one year and make use of the lovely garden.

We had a lovely stay even the weather was on our side for most of the week. The house itself was lovely and comfortable and we all enjoyed the games room. Thankyou for the wine and biscuits if was very welcome. The gardens were beautiful and the children loved exploring. We would definitely recommend the house to anyone.

Its a small upstairs kitchen but the rest of the house was large, most beds downstairs and its not warm in August. A bit negative for us was the contractor being disrespectful and opening the gate with the dogs out and driving in with a van we had no warning so wont be repeating that experience.

Cottage was clean but certainly not spotless. Dusty and cobwebby in the corners. Dishwasher hadnt been emptied. An information folder regarding appliances, heating etc and local area would be useful. The entrance is a tight turn off a narrow lane. Although the lane is quite quiet the traffic that does use it travels quite fast. Be careful when drivRead moreing out too. Overall we enjoyed our week but feel that the property is in need of a bit of attention. Hide
