Bask in the sunshine and watch the river meandering past when you stay at this delightful Lakeland cottage. Sleeping just three guests, the charming, dog-friendly retreat dates back to the 1700s and provides inviting accommodation for a couple or a small family. Situated at Clappersgate, in the heart of Cumbria and the Lake District, the cottage is less than 1 mile from Ambleside and the same distance from Lake Windermere.
Tear yourselves away from the views out across the lake and towards Wansfell and enter by taking a few steps down into the porch. Wander in to find accommodation that offers both character and comfort. Make your way into the welcoming lounge/diner, where you can light the wood burner on autumn and winter days. Switch on the TV, watch a DVD or choose a book from the shelf. Amble through to the kitchen to brew cups of tea or prepare a homecooked meal to share with your loved ones at the table in the main room. There is also a WC at ground-floor level. When you are ready to turn in for the night, climb the steep cottage-style stairs to the first floor. A king-size bedroom and a double, which is suitable for one person only, are both up here, together with the family bathroom. Wake up to glorious views out across your picturesque surroundings. Take in the views over morning coffee from your private patio. Stroll down to the River Brathay, where there is a shared seating area, plus hooks and access to the river for canoes and kayaks.
Wander into Ambleside to explore the galleries, boutiques and independent shops. Make your way to the shore at Waterhead to take a cruise on the lake. Visit the impressive, Victorian Wray Castle, 2.5 miles away, also on the banks of Windermere.
