This charming cottage in the historic market town of Kendal is ideally placed for exploring the glorious Lake District. Sleeping five guests, with a welcome for one pet, it is located in a quiet side street within a 0.5-mile stroll of shops and restaurants. There are distant rural views across the rooftops from the sunny, south-facing front garden and the cottage is attractively furnished, with a lovely, homely feel. Magnificent lakes and fells are within easy reach, including Windermere (8.5 miles) and Ambleside (13 miles), while bus and train routes from Kendal offer access to the heart of the national park.
Enter the terraced property through the well-equipped kitchen and cosy dining niche. This room opens to the bright lounge, with comfortable sofas in front of a wood burner-effect gas fire and a door to the garden and patio. Upstairs, there’s a streamlined family bathroom, a delightful single bedroom and a pretty double – both bedrooms have views over the rooftops. The second floor houses an inviting, king-size attic bedroom with low, sloping ceilings and partially reduced head height. Outside, the suntrap patio has seating and a BBQ, with secure storage for bikes at the bottom of the enclosed garden.
Vibrant Kendal has a twice-weekly market, a lively cultural vibe and a great range of independent shops, with local produce from artisan makers a speciality. Stroll around the town’s quaint 18th-century cobbled courtyards, a reminder of its once thriving wool trade, and explore the atmospheric ruins of Kendal Castle. Drop into historic Kendal Museum and the Brewery Arts Centre or enjoy a tree-lined walk alongside the River Kent. Take a cruise on Windermere and visit Hill Top, Beatrix Potter’s beautifully preserved farmhouse retreat at Near Sawrey, near Ambleside.
