  • Plenty to do in the local area including walking, cycling, sightseeing and boating on Windermere
Property code: SZ579

Perfectly placed for making the most of both Windermere Village and the lake itself, this single-storey property is a welcome retreat to return to after busy days spent exploring on foot, bicycle, or boat.

This property is a deceptively spacious detached bungalow; light, bright and airy throughout, inside you’ll find fantastic accommodation for up to four people. Surrounded by greenery and with lovely views towards the surrounding countryside but still within easy walking distance of the centre of Windermere, you really have the both of both worlds. Head inside this welcoming retreat and you’re sure to feel right at home. There’s a great kitchen/diner and a wonderful living room complete with cosy open fire and even a piano! There are two lovely bedrooms, a king-size bedroom and twin. The king-size room has its own en-suite shower room and there’s also a fantastic family bathroom. Yew Trees also has private off-road parking for one car and a lovely patio garden; both a real bonus so close to the centre of Windermere.

Located a short, pleasant walk from bustling Windermere Village and Bowness, you really have so much on your doorstep at this home from home. Leave the car where it is and head out on foot to explore. Indulge in some retail therapy, or treat yourselves to an evening out with cocktails and a delicious meal in one of local bars and restaurants. Lake Windermere is just over a mile's walk away; pack a picnic and enjoy a stroll along the lake shore, hire a boat, or hitch a ride on the launch for a majestic cruise round the lake. Neighbouring Bowness is a 10-minute walk away and offers an array of shops and eateries, as well as museums and lots of great walking opportunities. The cottage is surrounded by stunning scenery and the golf course is also a short walk away.

Why not catch the ferry across the water to Hawkshead, another charming Lakeland village, where you can visit the former home of Beatrix Potter at Hilltop, before stocking up on the village's delicious relish? There are plenty of fantastic walks on offer nearby. Take in the stunning vistas from Claife Viewing Station before following the path along the western shore of the lake. Spend a day exploring the magnificent Langdale Valley? With its rugged mountains and peaceful tarns, it's a must for any avid fell walker.

The kitchen/diner is a fantastic social space. Well equipped with an electric built-in oven and separate hob, handy microwave and large fridge-freezer, it’s sure to be a hit with the cooks in the group. Gather round the dining table, perfect for catching up on the day’s events over a delicious home cooked meal, or spread out your maps and guidebooks and plan tomorrow’s.

Off the kitchen is a large boot room with a washing machine and tumble dryer as well as with radiators, it’s a very useful addition and perfect for drying wet coats and boots. The 'rainy day cupboard' in here has a great selection of games, DVDs and books should you wish to make use of those during your stay.

The wonderfully spacious living room is light, bright and airy thanks to the large windows here. The two stylish sofas are positioned around the open fire, perfect for cosy evenings in. There’s a TV and an upright piano if you’d prefer to create your own entertainment!

Continue onwards and you’ll find the two lovely bedrooms and two bathrooms. The large master bedroom has a lovely metal-framed king-size bed, perfect for indulging in a long lie in - you are on holiday after all! There’s also a gorgeous vintage desk for those all important postcards. The king- size bedroom has its own en-suite shower room, complete with WC, washbasin and modern shower cubicle. The second bedroom is just as lovely as the first. Another bright and spacious room in here you’ll find two single beds and there’s also a handy chest of drawers for storage. The family bathroom has a WC, washbasin and a bath with shower over so all tastes are catered for here.

There is a gentle slope from the parking space to the cottage and two wide steps into the property. The property is positioned on a slope, so please note the outside seating area is slightly tiered, one step down to the table area. The cottage is on one level with the exception of the large boot room, please note there is a deep step down into the boot room from the kitchen and the useful backdoor enters the property through the boot room.

As well as all this, there is also private off-road parking for one car - a fantastic bonus so close to the centre of Windermere. To the front of the cottage is a delightful patio garden. A real sun trap with a picnic table, it’s a lovely spot equally suited to a peaceful morning coffee or an evening aperitif after a day out exploring.

Lovely cosy and warm place for our holiday walking in the Lakes. Very clean with ample kitchen equipment. Good location, walk up from town is uphill but isn't far. The drive parking is too tight but we were able to easily park on the road right outside the house so it wasn't a problem. Overall we were very happy with the accommodation.

A lovely cottage, very well maintained and in a convenient location. There isn't a private garden for dogs, but there is a great park less than 30 meters away to the right. The utility room was very convenient for cleaning the dogs off after returning from a walk. I'd definitely stay again in the future.

A comfortable property, spacious, practical and well equipped, in a lovely quiet location. The drive access is tricky but there is plenty of road parking. There is easy access to the hustle and bustle of Windermere and Bowness and all the south lakes has to offer.

Lovely cottage, perfectly equipped in great location. Walking distance into Windermere. Have never stayed anywhere that has provided more than you could ever need. Apart from enclosed garden for dogs but then that was my own fault for not double checking. The cottage itself is ideal for anyone wanting to explore that part of the Lakes.

Absolutely stunning bungalow cottage. Looks better in person, which is typically the opposite when arriving! 10/10 for the cottage, would definitely come back here. Just beware, if you have anything bigger than a smart car, the drive is tiny and has a little cobblestone wall behind it. My dad crashed the back of his sports car into the wall trying Read moreto park on the drive quite badly upon arriving. Id recommend parking on the road outside the cottage instead of on the drive, as it really is tiny. Hide
