Wood Barn is a delightfully peaceful semi-detached cottage for four in the Eskdale Valley. The former barn has been lovingly restored to create a modern and welcoming holiday home while still retaining much of the character of the old building. There is a subtle colour scheme throughout and the owners have used wood floors, cosy rugs and comfortable furnishings to create a modern rustic feel.
On arrival at the house guests enter via the ground floor door immediately into a large porch and drying area. There's a handy washing line in here for drying outdoor gear should the need arise. There's also plenty of space in here for storage should you wish to bring bikes along to explore the area. Moving further through there is a further boot room with bench and plenty more space for muddy boots and wellies. It also makes an ideal bedroom for pooches should you be bringing your four-legged friends along. The boot room also doubles as a drying room; it is heated, has hanging rails and an extractor fan.
From here you enter the main house and first come to the ground floor master bedroom. It's a lovely room with a wooden bedstead and dresser as well as a built-in cupboard with hanging space ,which also contains the washing machine. The view from the window looks over to fells and waterfalls on the other side of the valley. There is also an en-suite shower room too with a mixer shower in a square enclosure. Moving upstairs via the corner staircase which opens up into the main living area and upstairs accommodation.
The stunning double-height open plan living space is an absolute delight. Exposed beams frame the room while huge windows and a door open out onto the raised decking and the view of the fell side. The living space has two deep comfy sofas arranged around an electric effect stove and a television with Freeview and DVD player. There's also a stereo for atmosphere and the owners have thoughtfully left a selection of books and games to keep you entertained.
The kitchen is very well equipped with built-in fan oven, ceramic hobs, dishwasher, microwave and built-in fridge freezer as well as all the crockery and cookware you'll need for your stay. Tea towels and hand towels are also provided in the kitchen. In the centre of the room there is a dining table for four and due to the poor nature of mobile signal in the area there is also a handy payphone in the living space.
The twin bedroom lies just off this main room. It has a chest of drawers and hooks for hanging clothes as well as a dreamy recessed window in which you can sit and take in the gorgeous view over the valley. Ideal for inspiring you to get out on the fells. The family bathroom on this floor has a modern white suite and an over bath mixer shower.
The raised decking outside the main door is ideal for a morning cuppa, an evening glass of wine or dining al fresco. There's also a small raised lawn at the bottom of the stairs from the deck with further dining space to let you follow the sunshine. In all, it's a comfortable haven of a cottage in gloriously unspoiled countryside.
