Situated just a stone's throw from Esthwaite Water lies "Windermere", an ideal cottage for four people in the magical village of Near Sawrey. With two comfortable bedrooms and lovely open plan living space, it makes the perfect base for a family or two couples from which to explore this much-loved part of the world. Added to this, all of the accommodation is arranged on the ground floor so it would suit those with more limited mobility. Part of a group of cottages owned by the Graythwaite Estate, Windermere benefits from miles of lovely private trails.
Sawrey is the picture-perfect hamlet that Beatrix Potter made her home in the early 20th century and you can easily see why. Nestled between the shores of Lake Windermere and overlooking Esthwaite Water, the village sits among the gently rolling countryside that inspired so many of Potter's stories. While staying at Windermere why not take the short potter to her home, Hilltop, which is now a museum? Alternatively, amble along to Esthwaite Water to try your hand at trout fishing in the manner of Jeremy Fisher. You might even spot some ospreys while you're here. Perhaps indulge in a pub meal at the Tower Bank Arms after a day on the water.
Venturing out of Near Sawrey there's plenty to keep you occupied. Take a leisurely trip on one of Windermere's stately steamers to take in the scenery or potter around Hawkshead, the charming village just two miles from Sawrey. Alternatively indulge your artistic and adventurous sides with a visit to Grizedale Forest nearby. There's a wonderful sculpture trail and also a "Go Ape", high ropes course to get the adrenaline pumping. Explore some of the rich history of the area at Wray Castle or test your fell walking legs by scaling Claife Heights nearby. There's so much to enjoy right on the doorstep you'll find Windermere a most convenient base to make the most of this area.
