If glorious, wide-open views, well appointed accommodation and a warm welcome are on your list of requirements for a holiday, then you will adore Winder Ghyll. One of four individual properties at High Winder Cottages (sleeping up to 20 when booked together), Winder Ghyll sleeps up to four people in easily accessible ground floor accommodation. With two comfortable bedrooms, well maintained living spaces and delightful outdoor areas it makes the ideal bolthole for families or for those with more limited mobility. The cottages are situated in peaceful seclusion in the grounds of the owner's 17th century home between Pooley Bridge and the beautiful Eden and Lowther valleys making for glorious panoramic views of the Pennines and the valley floor below.

High Winder Cottages sit in a privileged position perched high above the Lowther Valley just over the fell from picturesque Ullswater. There's a world of fabulous walking nearby ranging from Lakeland's mightiest fell tops to gentle riverside ambles. Why not head up on to the fell path behind the cottages where a short walk will reward you with a stunning view of Ullswater? You might even encounter some of the area's wild ponies on your jaunt! Alternatively, head down to Askham and along the River Lowther taking in views of the majestic ruins of Lowther Castle along the way. The surrounding villages offer some excellent options for eating out with good village pubs on offer in Askham, Tirril and Pooley Bridge as well as highly regarded fine dining at Sharrow Bay. From Pooley Bridge you can catch one of the stately Ullswater Steamers, which wind their way around the lake, opening up linear walks along this most picturesque of valleys.

Only slightly further afield there's so much to do. A 15-minute drive takes you to the charming market town of Penrith where you'll find a great choice of shops and eateries while a 30-minute drive will deliver you to the Lake District's adventure capital, Keswick. Why not get well prepared and scale one of the Lake District's giants such as Helvellyn or Skiddaw? Alternatively explore the rich history of the area at Dalemain or Brougham Castle, both less than five miles from the door. After a day's exploration come back to High Winder and enjoy the spectacle of visiting wildlife ranging from deer, badgers and a fabulous range of birdlife. Not forgetting some amazingly tame and photogenic red squirrels who call the place home. Whether you choose to spend your visit exploring the unparalleled natural heritage of the area or delighting in its history, Winder Ghyll is a place you'll want to visit time and time again.

The High Winder cottages can also be let together if you are looking to accommodate a larger group.
