From the South

  • Junction 36 is the best route from the south onto the A590, Kendal by-pass then A591 to Ambleside

  • At the bottom of the hill, turn right signposted Town Centre and Keswick (A591)
  • You will then need to move into the left hand lane (Keswick, Grasmere (A591) and Town Centre). Follow this road up through the town centre
  • At the small roundabout, take the second exit (right) for Kirkstone
  • Proceed up Smithy Brow then take the first left turning onto Nook Lane (if you reach the Golden Rule, you've gone too far), then turn immediately right into The Green (please note, these are all small lanes so extra care and attention should be taken)

From the North

  • After around 12 miles, turn left onto the B5322 signed to Thirlmere
  • At the end of this road, turn left towards Grasmere on the A591

  • As you come into Ambleside, take the first left at the mini roundabout, signed for Kirkstone Pass
  • Proceed up Smithy Brow then take the first left turning onto Nook Lane (if you reach the Golden Rule, you've gone too far), then turn immediately right into The Green (please note, these are all small lanes so extra care and attention should be taken)

Wilwyn is in the first small terrace on your left and Wilwyn is the fourth cottage up from the bottom

There is parking for a small/medium car outside the cottage. There is a separate garage (about 2m away) which can be used if it is not possible to park outside the cottage (depending on the size of your car) or it can be used to store outdoor equipment. There is a separate secure bike store for two bikes in the shared garden.

The postcode for Wilwyn is LA22 9AU but please follow the above directions to help you find the cottage.

Please note, some SatNavs may take you over Kirkstone Pass. This is a steep and windy road and isn't recommended in adverse weather conditions.  Other SatNavs will take you to the right turn off smithy brow but then direct you straight on down the wrong very small road so please use your SatNav in conjunction with these directions.
