If you are looking for a luxurious hideaway which feels a million miles from the stress of modern life yet is just a 20-minute drive from the M6 then Willow Barn might be just the place. Stunningly situated high above picturesque Ullswater this beautifully appointed detached stone cottage for up to three people is an absolute dream. Stylishly furnished and decorated by an owner with a flair for interior design and making the most of light and space it really is a treat for a romantic break. It also has a gorgeous ground-floor king-size room and spacious shower room, ideal for guests with more limited mobility.

Bennet Head is a tiny hamlet overlooking glistening Ullswater. It's fantastically placed with a vast range of walking and cycling right from the door and Lakeland giants such as Helvellyn within very easy reach. Why not take in some of the Ullswater Way which passes right outside the house? You could take on the whole 20-mile circuit as a challenge or just enjoy smaller sections, such as the walk around Gowbarrow Fell taking in lovely Aira Force. If you'd like to get out on the water then a trip on the stately Ullswater Steamers makes a wonderful way of taking in the glorious scenery surrounding the lake. For a more hands-on approach you can hire kayaks or paddle boards from the various lakeside villages to explore the lake and its secluded beaches under your own steam. Just a 10-minute walk from Willow Barn is The Brackenrigg Inn, serving good locally sourced food and real ales even boasting its own micro-brewery.

If you would like to explore the attractions in the wider area, then the cottage is the perfect jumping off point. Take in the historic delights of Dalemain, a stately home with glorious gardens and a fascinating past or visit Rheged, an award-winning visitor attraction boasting a spa, shops, local art, an artisan deli and a gigantic 3D cinema. For those wanting to test their mettle in the great outdoors there is a wealth of outdoor guides nearby ready to introduce you to climbing, ghyll scrambling, kayaking, paragliding and plenty more. Alternatively, just relax and enjoy the tranquillity and your glorious lake and mountain views at Willow Barn.
