Escape for a romantic, rural retreat filled with waterside walks and cosy nights in at this renovated barn conversion. Your dog is welcome to adventure by your side and you will arrive to stunning views over the surrounding fells and countryside.

This alluring holiday property is a self-contained apartment within a larger barn conversion at Parkergate, a former farm on the outskirts of Bassenthwaite. The property sleeps two people in one double bedroom and has a beautiful view to Bassenthwaite Lake and the surrounding fells. The apartment, which has been newly refurbished, is south-facing and benefits from the afternoon and evening sun.

The property is in a wonderful position beneath Skiddaw. There is excellent walking straight from the door, either to the high fells or more gentle routes along the shores of Bassenthwaite. Dodd Wood is an extensive wooded fell at the foot of Skiddaw. The forest tracks offer easy walking and clear waymarked trails. The summit of Dodd has a fine view across Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite. Dodd Wood is also home to the Osprey Watch project where a visiting pair of ospreys regularly nest and hunt.

Bassenthwaite Village is a gentle 30-minute walk from Ullock Pike. There is a good pub in the village. You can also enjoy a walk from the village taking in pretty St Bega's church that nestles on the lake shore. The church is said to be the inspiration for Alfred Tennyson's Morte d'Arthur after his visit there in 1835.

The property can be booked along with neighbouring properties or with all the apartments in the barn, providing accommodation for up to 16 people.

Upon entering this barn conversion, stairs lead up to the apartment. There is an open-plan sitting room with TV and DVD player. The kitchen and dining area are beyond, and the kitchen is equipped with electric cooker, fridge with freezer compartment, microwave and plenty of storage space.

The bathroom has a bath with shower over, and opposite here is the large double bedroom.

All the windows have amazing views towards Bassenthwaite Lake and the fells beyond. Downstairs there is a shared patio area and garden beyond, patrolled by the local ducks.

There is a separate dryer room (with clothes airier, iron and ironing board)  which is shared with the other cottages.

Location is good with a car. Keswick is a short drive as are local pubs for food. Place is newly refurbished and clean. Drying room available downstairs which is very handy for wet clothes and boots! Self check in is handy for late arrivals.

We stayed at Ullock Pike. The apartment was warm, clean and well equipped. Lovely views and plenty of walks a short drive away. The manager there was very friendly and helpful. There is some grassed area at the property for your four legged friends and a bridle path right next to the property. It does get a little wet further down this path so wellRead moreies would be useful. Hide

The property was in a fine location with good views and access to the various areas of the district. The cottage was an apartment and a good size for 2 people allowing for a relaxing stay after a day out in the fells.

Ullock Pike is really well appointed, the whole barn building was clean. Very comfortable bed. More than enough space for 2 (or 3 )people. On topmost floor which gives it (and Calva) the best, farthest-reaching views towards the Lake, allowing glimpsed views of the lake itself as well as the fells. Laminated walks information is a very good idea. PRead morelenty of information generally. The Managing staff are very helpful and friendly. Hide

We stayed in ullock pike, and brought our young dog. They fail to tell you there is no direct outside area, or balcony and you have to run the dog up and down the stairs via a shared landing to let them out. Apart from that, a very enjoyable stay!

Good location with a few good restaurants/pubs within a mile. Good views from the apartment over fields to Bassenthwaite Lake. Although no balcony, the extensive grounds are available to all residents but could do with a few more benches/seating areas. Unfortunately, the grass was getting too long and needed mowing. We last stayed at Parkergate (alRead morethough in a different unit) 9 years ago and we felt the property was in need of some maintenance as it was looking a little tired. Hide
