The Old Post Office's location is lovely with lots of walks on your doorstep, convenient and friendly shop over the road and in between two pubs. The owners and their dogs were friendly and welcoming. Parking was very convenient and the little garden was nice to sit in when the sun was out. It was a good base for exploring the Western Lakes.

However, we found the sofa and chair really uncomfortable, which made it harder to relax of an evening. The bed was firm and would've been great had it been slightly bigger - it was a regular double and there is room for a wider one. That said, we are a tall couple and perhaps for more petite people both the bed and the chair sizes would be less of an issue! The bedding was clean but had a strange odour; we wondered if it had been in storage near animals.

There was some mould around the bath and next to the shower screen which put us off having a relaxing soak after a day of walking, bit of a shame because the bath was quite big! The shower was quite powerful and we had enough hot water for washing up and showering every day. Would have appreciated a few more basics in the kitchen, e.g. cleaning spray, brillo pads. There was a damp smell in the kitchen cupboards but we found a bucket under the sink that needed emptying occasionally so we assumed it was due to that and nothing more sinister.

That said, we found it was a very reasonably priced place to stay in peak holiday season and was lovely and quiet at night. Eskdale is a beautiful part of the world. We heard owls hooting one night and by day heard the steam train from the cottage, which was charming.

Hi Jenny, very many thanks for taking the time to leave your detailed comments, beds are such a personal issue, I advise our owners to steer a middle path to suit as many guests as possible. The owners have now addressed all the bathroom issues that you raised and also looked into the other points. Eskdale is such a stunning valley, isn't it? I am so delighted that you had the opportunity to explore it - and hear the owls too, how fantastic! We would love to see you again whenever you return.
