Location of The Warren
FROM NORTH, SOUTH & EAST
At M6/A66 junction (J40 of the M6) take A66 to Workington/Keswick
Continue on A66 for approx. 14 miles
Take A591 sliproad to Keswick/Windermere
At A591 T junction turn right to Keswick
From Keswick take the B5289 signposted Borrowdale
You need to turn off the B5289 signposted Grange
Continue over the humpback bridge and follow the road through the village (the turning for The Warren is about 1 mile from Grange)
Once out of Grange, you will pass the Borrowdale Gates Hotel on your right and Youdale Knot and Manesty Holiday Cottages (painted pink and above the road to your left)
Just after you pass the Manesty Cottages the road goes through a narrow former gateway at the top of a hill
The road then runs downhill and there is a sharp left hand bend with a turning to a caravan park (not signposted out of season) on the right. Go round the sharp left hand bend and then follow the road round to the right and uphill
At the top of the hill the road continues on but there is a fork to the right past a large rock with a tree on it
Take the right fork, there is a gate, a red letter box set into the wall and a National Trust sign.
This gate is periodically locked to avoid unauthorised access to Manesty Wood and the code is 7292. If you find it locked, please leave it locked and vice versa.
Go through the gate over the cattle grid and follow the road down through the wood
The Warren is the first house you come to on your left
You can park across the road, just across from and slightly above the cottage. There is also some parking through the gate immediately below the house (please be careful to keep the track clear for access)
Please note, The Warren can also be reached by turning off the A66 at Portinscale but this involves a narrower more difficult road than the journey via Grange.
The postcode for The Warren is CA12 5UG. We do advise that you follow the above directions to reach the cottage.
