The Retreat is a spacious and light filled house for six people overlooking a magnificent panorama of northern Lakeland fells. It has been thoughtfully planned to make the most of light and space making a very comfortable holiday home. It also benefits from a downstairs double bedroom and bathroom making it ideal if some of your party struggle with stairs.
On arrival at the property you'll enter via the utility room. Here you'll find a washer, dryer, sink and handy extra loo. It also has bags of space for the coats and muddy boots you're sure to accumulate on your Lake District adventures. From here you enter the warm, modern kitchen. It's a lovely bright space with wooden floors and light units, it's also exceedingly well equipped with a dishwasher, microwave, large fridge freezer, gas hobs and a built-in double oven thoughtfully positioned so the chefs in the party don't need to bend down to floor level. The room also has a breakfast table and four seats making a great place for sociable food preparation.
Through the hallway from here you'll come to the huge open plan living and dining rooms. This stunning space benefits from two huge picture windows taking in the stunning vista of Skiddaw, Latrigg and the Helvellyn range to name but a few. To the left is the living area which has an open fire set in a stone fireplace, a large curving leather sofa and several armchairs making plenty of seating space for your party to relax in the evenings. There is a television with DVD and VHS players and the owners have thoughtfully left a selection of books for guests. To the right is the dining area which has a lovely large circular dining table, a perfect spot for long post dinner chats, and another sofa for the group to spread out. It could be a dangerous place to have breakfast as the view is so good you might forget to leave the house to explore the area.
Off this downstairs hall you'll find the cosy double bedroom, this has views of the surrounding fields and woodland and has fitted wardrobes with plenty of storage space. The downstairs bathroom has a fresh modern feel about it with over-bath mixer shower.
Heading up the lovely light staircase you'll find a large landing area with a desk and seat should anyone need to bring work on holiday with them or just for a comfy and spacious place to write your postcards. It also has a velux window looking up to Whinlatter forest to the rear of the house. On this level you'll find another large family bathroom with two velux windows allowing light to just flood in. It has a large bath and a curved shower enclosure. A great room for soothing aching muscles.
Both of the bedrooms on this floor have lovely light decor and large windows with those staggering views to the front of the house. The king size room has built-in wardrobes and a dressing table while the twin has a wardrobe and chest of drawers. Try not to fight over who gets their morning cuppa in bed overlooking the fells! The twin bedroom has zip and link beds which can be made up as a double if required. Please advise us on booking if you require this.
Outside the house the garden is a wonderful multi-level haven of rockeries, ponds, mature trees and shrubs offering year round colour and so many different places from which to enjoy the views not least a beautiful terrace area outside the front door and a gorgeous summer house looking towards the Newlands fells. The garden literally has so many nooks and crannies to explore you'll have to keep an eye on any little ones who'll find some brilliant hiding places while out searching for Whinlatter forest elves. It truly is a magical place to enjoy an evening glass of wine or a sunrise cuppa.
