- We stayed at the Hideaway during half term break in October (family of four and a dog). The apartment is beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. Despite the weather being horrendous all week (I think we had two half-days without rain all week), the view overlooking the lake was beautiful to look out on every morning.
The apartment has everything you could think of and some really nice touches. The heaters were lovely and warm by themselves, but we did try and light the log burner a couple of times. It really didn't give off much heat though so we just had the radiators on in the end.
We arrived in the dark and, despite having a torch with us, it was really hard to see where the fir trees were to park underneath (as the instructions gave) and the sign for the apartment was hidden and in the dark so we actually walked around the house completely before we found the door.
It was lovely being so remote and really felt like we were in the Lake District, but then it was only a short drive to pubs and attractions. We had an amazing Sunday lunch at The Swan and found an absolutely beautiful pub called The Manor House at Oxen Park, which was about a 20 minute drive away but worth it. Both pubs were dog friendly and very welcoming towards our pup.
Despite the weather, we still managed to go on the boat cruise up to Bowness and the steam train from Lakeside to Haverthwaite. We found a lovely National Trust part just 5 minutes drive from the apartment overlooking Windermere which was nice for lunch and walking the dog. We visited the car transport museum (which also welcomed dogs) and they had an amazing cafe there for lunch too. Definitely worth a visit. Another place the kids enjoyed was the aquarium at Lakeside, but we weren't able to take the dog there.
Would definitely love to come back again and visit The Hideaway when the weather is nicer and we aren't in the middle of a Covid pandemic, as it really is a beautiful part of the country.

Hi Karen, thank you for taking the time to write a review. It sounds like you had a lovely holiday and managed to fit in lots of exploring despite the less than perfect weather!
I hope you can plan another trip some time, you can be sure of a warm welcome. Fingers crossed for better weather next time!
