Property code: SZ479

This romantic bolthole is situated by the idyllic shores of Derwentwater, perfect for a relaxing getaway for two. Enjoy both vibrant culture and tranquil settings at your door.

This lovely holiday property is just that! An escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. A peaceful haven in a small corner of the lovely village of Portinscale, you can retreat from modern life here. Leave your car for the week and explore the area at a slow pace on foot. Notice nature unfurling. There are walks aplenty right from the door step. The shores of Derwentwater are a five minute stroll away. Walk along the woodland paths by the lake for a mile or so and you'll come to Catbells with Maiden Moor beyond - a worthy ridge climb that gives you panoramic views towards Keswick and the surrounding fells.

The cottage itself is the perfect escape. With no TV, you can get a digital detox - don't forget to bring a deck of cards for your trip. The cottage offers stylish simplicity in a beautiful area. And if you want to enter the world of modern electronics then The Chalet Tearooms, a minute's walk away.

The market town of Keswick is a 20 minute walk away, or you can hop on the launch at Nichol End and take a boat into town. Here there are shops, restaurants, a climbing wall, cinema and plenty of activities to choose from.

The entrance leads into the lounge with slate flagged floors and leather armchairs. Although the wood burner is not in use, the fireplace itself is an interesting geological work of art - using stone from all the different parts of the Lake District, from Borrowdale Slate to Eskdale Granite to St Bees Sandstone. There is no TV and the dining table in the lounge doubles up as a handy games table for a battle of Scrabble or Canasta. Beyond the lounge is the kitchen which has an electric oven and hob, larder fridge and storage space. The bathroom is beyond the kitchen and has a bath with shower over it.

Wooden open tread stairs lead to the bedroom which has a double bed, side tables and a wardrobe.

Outside there is space to enjoy the morning sun. Parking is on-street.

Really enjoyed our stay. The property is very central, Keswick is less than a 20 minute walk away. Wine was left, which was a nice touch. Lots of activities to do in the cottage in the evening. Lots of walks central to the cottage which you don't have to drive to. Only downfall is the bathroom is downstairs, so not brilliant if you need the toilet Read morein the night, and there was no extractor fan in the kitchen or bathroom, but these were only minor inconvenience. Would definitely stay here again! Hide

We chose this cottage on the basis of not wanting to spend too much as we only really needed a place to sleep. It met that requirement well enough. We thought it basic and some of the features were not really to our taste, although we appreciate others may like them. This included the ground floor which felt cold and a little gloomy to us, partly wRead moree think because of the slate stone floor. Easy and pleasant walk into Keswick from the cottage. Hide

This cottage is the ultimate switch off and relax experience. Unplugged. Very cute cottage fully equipped with everything you would need. Perfectly located for Keswick, Lingholm, Braithwaite etc. Great pub in the village as well. If you don't like tranquility, this is probably not the place for you. For us it was spot on. We had an excellent holiday in The Escape. It is a beautiful cottage, well equipped and in an excellent location. Parking was easy and it was a pleasant 15 minute walk into Keswick. Location is absolutely perfect. A lovely little village on the outskirts of Keswick, everything you could want from the lakes is within walking distance. The cottage itself is very cosy and amply equipped. Ideal for walkers.

Would have preferred an enclosed garden space for our dogs but other than that it was ideal. Great location with all we needed to enjoy our break.

Comfortable, warm and generous cottage, all amenities catered for. Lack of WiFi and TV a bonus, total relaxation and uninterrupted time to enjoy simply reading books. Location excellent for our holiday, quiet but within easy reach of everything we wanted. Welcome from the hosts was a special touch.
