- We had a fantastic time in this lovely cottage in a beautiful and quiet location.
A few notes that might help others with booking: the cottage has no internet and you won’t get phone or data signal either. This didn’t put us off (in fact it was great to be non-contactable for a bit!) but imagine it might others. It did mean we weren’t able to research what to do the following days whilst at the property and so drove to pubs with wifi. Not a problem for us, but could be for some. Because of the lack of connectivity we would have appreciated more info in the cottage about local walks and things to do. Info was very limited.
The cottage is the perfect size for a couple and a dog and is very dog friendly, which was fab. You can walk up to High Dam from the cottage. It had all the bits and bobs needed for self catering. The mattress needs replacing (we didn’t sleep well unfortunately) but not the end of the world for four nights. The well-kept garden was lovely to sit in and unwind in the sun after a day’s hiking.
You can walk across the field, woods and along the road to the Lakeside boat stop, which is great for a car-free day exploring Lake Windermere.
Finsthwaite is tiny, very pretty and the cottage’s neighbours friendly, and is a great location for exploring the beautiful South Lakes. We had a great time.

Thanks so much for your lovely helpful feedback, Rachael. I'll pass on your comments about the info and the mattress on to the owners for their attention - thanks for letting me know. It definitely sounds like you had a fabulous time here and I hope you'll be able to return before too long!
