- Main issues were the bed, which appeared to be broken: the middle leg didn’t touch the floor and together with the (old, flat?) mattress, this caused a v-shape so both of us kept falling into the middle of the bed. We used leaflets to try to level out the bed.
There is also an incredibly loud heating system, which kept us awake a night. We worked out that if you ran off all the hot water this helped a bit, but this isn’t really ideal or eco-friendly.
All in all this unfortunately made for a far from relaxing break.
I think this cottage might be a better destination in the summer.
It’s a cosy cottage, but this also means very small and compact with nowhere really to dry wet clothes (the clothes horse is broken).

Hi Emma, thank you for your review for Swinside Cottage. It's a lovely cosy cottage and I do hope that despite the issues you faced, you had an enjoyable time in the Lakes. The owner, Lynne, is sorry to hear that you found the immersion heater to be noisy - She would have been happy to change the timings that it comes on to suit you better, and will do this for future guests. The owners are also replacing both the mattress and the bed-frame later on this month, so they appreciate your comments. They would have been happy to help in any way they could during your stay had they known of the issues - I would always advise on contacting myself or the owners at the time, so that we can do all we can to improve your enjoyment. Thank you once again for your feedback, and I do hope you are able to return Lake District some time soon!
