- Lovely welcome from the owner, the cottage was cosy but modern at the same time. The kitchen seemed quite new and was well kitted out with dishwasher (although not sure if there was a washing machine). Very peaceful location and reasonably easy to get to places to do some interesting walks, we did High Cup Nick from Dufton and Aira force at Ullswater. We had hoped to walk from the cottage but I noted some of the areas nearby are restricted due to military testing so we went further afield to be on the safe side. We were blessed with great October weather and coming back to the cottage for a hot bath and then to sit around the fire was perfect. Although it must be said the heating controller was not easy to fathom out and so the cottage was colder than we would have liked for a couple of days. There's a well-stocked Co-op 10 mins drive away and further afield the town of Penrith has plenty to offer. We didn't go to the nearest pub which was just over a mile away in Sandford, but we went to the Mason's arms in Appleby, which was on the way back from Dufton and we can recommend there for lovely food and staff. All in all, we had a great break and would certainly stay at the cottage again

Hello Paul, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I'm thrilled you had a fabulous break! It's a gem of a cottage isn't it? You picked the perfect location for escaping the hustle and bustle for a while and exploring the beautiful Lakes. You just can't beat a hot bath and a cosy fire to sit round of an evening - perfect! Thank you for your feedback regarding the heating controller - I will look into this further. I hope you will plan a return visit very soon.
