A pretty barn conversion set in a breathtaking spot just a few miles from the edge of Windermere, this lovely retreat makes a relaxing holiday home for families exploring the southern Lake District.

This is a delightful barn conversion for four people. Laid out over three floors, the accommodation is full of original character features, from exposed local stonework and vaulted ceilings to beautiful wooden beams. On the ground floor is the spacious kitchen/diner, utility room with family bathroom and the first of the two king-size bedrooms (this room can also be made up as a twin upon request). Upstairs on the first floor is the lovely living room with its wood burner and the second king-size bedroom with en-suite WC and wash basin, whilst the modern shower room is up on the second floor. As well as parking for one to two cars by the front of the cottage, the property also has a lovely rear garden with a patio and wonderful views over the surrounding countryside.

Located in the pretty village of Haverthwaite in the South Lakes, the Lakeland Motor Museum with its popular riverside cafe is a must visit whilst staying in the area, as is a ride on the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Steam Railway. Originally built to transport coal and iron inland from the coast, now a popular tourist attraction where the trains take you through scenic countryside to bustling Bowness-on-Windermere. Families will love a trip to the Lakes Aquarium at nearby Lakeside Newby Bridge or visit the Bobbin Mill at Stott Park to learn all about the industrial heritage of the area. The southern tip of Lake Windermere is just a 10-minute drive away, where you can enjoy a lakeside picnic at Fell Foot, a beautiful National Trust lakeshore park. There are also over 20 different walking routes within easy reach, why not try a different one every day?

Surrounded by beautiful countryside and with easy access links into the heart of The Lakes, there are plenty of fantastic walking opportunities to take advantage of during your stay at Swallowdale. Explore the woodland paths at High Dam, a picturesque tarn that once supplied water to the nearby Stott Park Bobbin Mill. Head to nearby Gummer's How for a small hike with stunning views from the summit or visit some of the nearby nature reserves at Whitbarrow and Rusland Moss, a haven for a wide variety of birds and wildlife. Why not head south to the coast for a change of scene? Enjoy a bracing coastal stroll whilst taking in the beautiful open vistas out to sea, the perfect way to recharge the batteries.

Light, bright and airy but still with plenty of character features, the kitchen/diner is a wonderful welcoming room. It's well equipped with an electric oven and hob, microwave, built-in fridge/freezer, wine cooler and handy toaster. As well as all this, there's also a TV and even a dishwasher so there's no need to fight over who has to do the washing up. The dining table is positioned by the rear door and window overlooking the garden and beautiful countryside beyond - talk about dining with a view!

On the ground floor, you'll also find the first of the two king-size bedrooms. Another bright room with a feature wall of exposed local stone and decorated in sunny yellow tones, you're sure to feel instantly relaxed in here. This room can also be made up as a twin upon request. The family bathroom is also on the ground floor. With a WC, wash basin and bath with shower over, all tastes are catered for here, whether you prefer indulging in a long soak in the tub or a reinvigorating shower.

Having the living room on the first floor really makes the most of the wonderful countryside views on offer. Full of character with exposed stone work, a vaulted ceiling and original beams, the lovely living room has a cosy wood burner and flatscreen TV, perfect for relaxing evenings in.

Also on the first floor is the second king-size bedroom. A lovely light room with feature exposed stonework, the king-size bed is perfectly positioned so you can enjoy your morning cuppa with a view whilst enjoying a long lie in - you are on holiday after all! There is also plenty of built-in storage and this bedroom has its own en-suite WC, a very handy addition.

Onwards and upwards to the second floor and the modern shower room up here has a WC, wash basin and shower cubicle, ideal for a refreshing shower after a day out on the fells.

Outside, at the rear of the cottage, is a delightful enclosed garden. With outdoor furniture, it's a lovely spot for al fresco dining. Beyond the garden are wonderful views over the surrounding fields and hills beyond; it really is a fantastic space for some real R&R.

As well as all this, there is also parking at the front of the cottage for up to two cars.

A great house, very comfortable, well equipped and cosy. It is our second time there and definitely one of the best self catering properties we have ever stayed in. It is in a really good location and easily accessible to the rest of the Lakes.

Comfortable and clean. Did not realise we were attached to a property. No privacy in the garden luckily enough did not see the neighbour. Very close to other houses. On description said last cottage so I thought it was a road. But it's a little hamlet so not private. Also not happy to have scaffolding up in the garden. Had no notification of this. A very comfortable and well equipped cottage it had everything we could possibly need. The parking space is a little tricky to manoeuvre out of if you don't reverse into it (even for a small car) and there is a fair bit of traffic on the B road right next to the cottage although it quietens down at night.
