Wander the local footpaths or set off on more challenging walks amongst the lesser known northern fells; the bottom of Carrock Fell and High Pike are just 3/4mile from your door. Situated on a quiet country lane the only neighbours are the owners in the property next door yet just 20 minutes’ walk takes you to the popular brewery pub in Hesket Newmarket for food, drink and local craic. Hesket Newmarket is a small unspoilt village in the northern Lake District with a village shop for necessities as well as the pub and a small children’s play area. Walk or take a short drive to Caldbeck; tucked away in a green valley surrounded by moorland, it has a historic church, pub, several cafes and craft shops plus a large duck pond on the green and a beautiful section of Cald Beck running through its centre.
The attractive market towns of Cockermouth, Keswick and Penrith plus the historic city of Carlisle can all be reached within half an hour drive, and all of them are worth a visit just for the stunning views on the way there! The historic properties of Hutton in the Forest, Dalemain, Mirehouse and Lowther Castle are a similar distance away, offering historic houses and beautiful gardens to explore plus lovely tearooms for treating yourself too. The whole of the northern and north-eastern Lake District is yours to explore and the Eden Valley, Hadrian’s Wall and the Solway Coast are also in easy reach offering wide horizons to explore.
