General Description

Stanegate is housed in a former threshing barn built of sandstone around 1900 right on top of the roman remains of the vallum associated with Hadrian's Wall and a quarry for stone used to build the wall itself. Many buildings along the line of the wall contain stone reclaimed from the wall itself in times before it's historical value was realised - who knows, the barns of Bleatarn Park may be among them! A spacious and thoughtfully designed retreat with two bedrooms sleeping three people Stanegate is located on the ground floor of the barn and is all on one level. The owner has ensured that everything you may need is on hand so all you have to do is relax and enjoy your holiday. The owner also provides a welcome pack including milk, biscuits and wine for you to enjoy.

Parking for the cottage is in the shared gravel and paved yard to the front, with each property in the complex having its own named space. The solid wood front door leads into a spacious hallway with practical laminate floor and plenty of room for hanging coats and storing muddy boots. All the other rooms lead off from this central hallway.

Through the first door on the right is the cosily carpeted double bedroom a relaxing calm space with a window looking out onto the yard. Storage is provided in lovely solid wood furniture including a wardrobe with drawer beneath and three drawers in each of the bedside tables both of which have lamps for enjoying a book in bed. There is also a TV/DVD on the wall for those who prefer viewing to reading. A full-length mirror completes the furniture in this pretty room.

On the other side of the hall is the cosy single bedroom, the window here also looks out onto the yard. This attractive room is carpeted and contains a solid wood wardrobe and bedside table with drawers beneath and a lamp on top with a TV/DVD on the wall.

Next on the left is the family bathroom. Black and white tiles on the floor, textured white wall tiles and a white suite give this bathroom a clean modern feel. A P-shaped bath with shower over gives you the best of both worlds. Either way the heated towel rail means lovely snuggly towels when you've finished!

At the end of the hall is the main living area. this open-plan room contains the kitchen-, dining- and living areas, with windows overlooking fields and the yard at the back of the barn this room is light and welcoming. To the left is a well laid out U-shaped fitted kitchen with tiled splashback. The kitchen is well equipped including under counter fridge, microwave, dishwasher, electric hob, oven and cooker hood and if you do need to wash anything up you can enjoy the view across the fields while you do so (washing up liquid, dishcloth and tea towel provided are provided). There is still room for plenty of cupboards containing all the crockery, cookware and cutlery you need to prepare and eat a tasty meal and space to store your supplies.

There is a dining table with 3 chairs opposite the door leaving the rest of the space for a comfortable two-seat sofa and separate armchair plus a coffee table for resting the all-important restorative cup of tea or glass of wine - or both! A bookshelf holds a selection of books and maps, plus a radio/iPod dock whilst the LCD TV with DVD is mounted on the wall.

Just to the left outside the front door is your enclosed private patio area with table and chairs and a BBQ, perfect for making the most of long summer evenings.

Across the yard is a communal laundry and drying room for all the cottages but with 3 washing machines and 2 dryers there is plenty of capacity for all and washing powder is provided if you forget! Also in this room are a further selection of books and jigsaws and a freezer, each drawer of which has the name of a cottage on so no confusion over whose is whose, plus iron and ironing board. There is an OS map on the wall for planning walks and you can also store bikes securely in the room behind.
