The picture is not an accurate representation. It appears to show the cottage in a standalone location when in actual fact it is surrounded by several other properties which all share the courtyard for access and parking. When I arrived there were six other vehicles parked in the courtyard and most of them didn`t move throughout my stay. The outlook from the front of the cottage was of parked vehicles! The shower was weak and tepid. There was no TV signal, or if there was there were no instructions on how to operate the TV. A miserable three nights spent watching old DVD`s! When I tried to report the problems I discovered there was no mobile phone signal which resulted in aimlessly driving around in the dark trying to find one. Some of the cooker hobs are woefully inefficient and the oven door will not close properly - I had to sit in a chair leaning against the door and use the grill setting to get it up to temperature, and even after that it started to cool down again. The cottage is clean and well presented but in terms of amenities and facilities I have stayed in better youth hostels, and that was 25 years ago!

Hello! I can confirm that the owner of Stables Cottage has now replaced the cooker and grill in light of your feedback. Many thanks for your honesty, I appreciate it.

Hello Simon, thank you for taking the time to write a review - I'm really sorry to hear that you encountered some issues during your stay. I really appreciate your feedback becuase it's given me a chance to look into everything. I can see that you phoned us shortly after your arrival, in order to report an issue with the TV signal and request some bin bags. The team did try and call you back, as well as email you, several times to try and offer their assistance but weren't able to get through. One of the team did drive from Keswick to Wythop Mill and dropped off some bin bags, I hope they helped - I believe you were out at the time. I'm really sorry that we couldn't help with the TV but we wouldn't arrange remedial work without speaking to our guests first, just in case they are shieling. Had I known about the issue with the oven then I would, of course, have been happy to help - I'm sorry you had trouble with it. I have contacted the owner to make sure this is looked into. I do hope that despite these issues, you still managed to enjoy your break. The location is idyllic, isn't it? Just perfect if you enjoy exploring and getting out for some great walks. I hope you will plan a return visit to the beautiful Lakes soon.

The cottage is lovely comfortable & warm. I would however recommend a steam clean in the oven and a defrost on the fridge ice box so it is useable.
However would definitely recommend this cottage.

Thank you for letting me know about the oven and fridge, I'll get both of those sorted.
I hope you can come back to explore more of the Lakes soon.

Lovely cottage in lovely part of the world, the bedroom is huge and especially nice. Easy to keep cosy warm and plenty of room for two. We also felt pretty safe that it was as Covid proofed as it could be.
The location could not be better - half-way between Cockermouth and Keswick, not far from the Coast and the Wildlife Park. Two fells (Ling and Sale) to climb from the doorstep and Bassenthwaite lake a couple of minutes in the car. We were there a week and ran out of days before we ran out of things to do.
Our only gripe was the amount of 'stuff' in the kitchen. There were no empty cupboards for food storage which was a pain, and 2 people don't need eg. 15 dinner plates (yes we counted them), 3 shelves of glasses and 4 potato peelers! Have a clear out and this place would be spot on.
Other than that, we heartily recommend and would return.
