There is a comfortable sitting room with views to the fells and woodland. Skiddaw Cottage is perfectly positioned for climbing Skiddaw, Ullock Pike and Dodd Wood. Bassenthwaite village has a traditional pub and a quiet friendly atmosphere. Bassenthwaite Lake is the only true lake in the Lake District. It is a long ribbon lake stretching for 4 miles attracting sailors to the calm quiet waters. An annual regatta is held every August. Bassenthwaite is also known for the Osprey Project; a successful project to reintroduce breeding ospreys to the area. You can learn more about the project at Dodd Wood where there is a viewing platform, knowledgeable volunteers and a great little tearoom called the Old Sawmill.
Nearby Keswick is a hub for walkers and outdoor enthusiasts. There are plenty of outdoor shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. For evening entertainment there is an Art Deco cinema and the Theatre by the Lake.
