Sleeping eights guests and two four-pawed pals, this charming cottage is perfect of couples’ get-togethers, a group of friends or a family reunion in the heart of the Lake District.

This beautifulholiday home is situated on the lower slopes of Skiddaw. It occupies a nice position in the much sought-after hamlet of Applethwaite with wide ranging views of Keswick, Derwentwater and the surrounding mountains.

This elegant cottage sleeps up to eight people in four bedrooms, all of which enjoy lovely views of Grisedale Pike or Latrigg. The sitting room is beautifully decorated and has wifi and a smart TV.

Applethwaite is just below Skiddaw making it the perfect start place for an ascent of this magnificent mountain. There are plenty of gentler walks too, either on Latrigg for fine views, or down to Bassenthwaite Lake. Keswick is just a mile away and is a pleasant walk across the fields, passing safely beneath the A66.

Keswick is a busy market town, with plenty of choice when it comes to pubs and places to eat, and shops for outdoor equipment. For evening entertainment there is the local cinema or the renowned Theatre by the Lake.

The house is accessed from the front door into the tiled hallway. The kitchen is a good size with table and chairs, large freestanding fridge and freezer, built in electric double oven, electric hob, dishwasher, microwave and washing machine. The drinking water has a filter system.

The sitting room has comfortable seating, open fire with no glass front, (initial supply of logs provided) and large smart  TV. Patio doors lead out to the rear patio area.

Upstairs there are four lovely bedrooms. The master bedroom has a super-king-size bed with a large en-suite bathroom comprising of a bath, shower enclosure, wash basin and WC. The master bedroom also boasts beautiful views to Grisedale Pike and Catbells. There are two double bedrooms both with views to Latrigg plus a twin bedroom . A hairdryer is available in the main bedroom.

The family bathroom has a WC, wash basin and a over bath power shower.

The lovely garden has flowering shrubs, a patio area to the side and rear with table and chairs and lockable shed for bike storage.

  • Please note pets must be kept off the furniture, out of bedrooms and they must not be left unattended
  • Storage for bikes in shed
  • The drinking water has a filter system
  • Pub 1 mile, shop and restaurant 2 miles
  • When going out and about, do note that due to rural nature of the lake district mobile signals can be patchy in some locations 
  • This property will be decorated for Christmas
  • Arrival: 16:30 onwards
  • Departure: before 10:00, unless otherwise stated in your arrival details
  • 2 dogs allowed. Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week
  • There is an Accidental Damage Deposit of £350 when booking at this property, however this may be waived for £40. We’ll provide more details about this when booking your holiday.

Amazing cottage fully equipped and super clean! We had an amazing relaxing weekend. Keswick really close and took us only 30 min to walk there. Fireplace was beautiful too!

A very clean and comfortable property to stay in , all furnishings are to the highest standard and everything you may need is catered for plus with Keswick just a short walking distance away.its a perfect place to stay in the Lakes with family or friends, we all enjoyed it immensely and wouldnt hesitate to book again.

The cottage was beautiful and well equipped for our group of 8 adults and a small dog. We were very comfortable with plenty of room for everyone. The kitchen was fantastic for our group, being able to eat around the table and take advantage of the games available was excellent. The lounge is also great for larger groups very comfortable and beautifRead moreully decorated. The bedrooms were also very comfortable and clean. Scar Cottage was a great place to base ourselves at for a week in the Lakes. 7 adults and 2 dogs. We all had a great stay. Plenty of space and very comfortable.

Lovely traditional cottage in a beautiful setting. The cleanliness of the lounge was the only thing that we had an issue with and more attention to sofas and rugs following a dog staying is needed as we were regularly covered in black dog hairs.

We have stayed at Scar Cottage several times - returning each year to reunite with old University friends and our children. The layout of the cottage works really well for this set-up (one group in the lounge, one in the kitchen) and the location in Applethwaite is perfect (close to Keswick but quiet).

Very comfortable, fully-equipped cottage with much attention to detail - home from home, and more like a visit with a friend than a holiday rental. The library of books & games, for example, was appreciated in a very rainy week. Nothing was lacking. We quickly adjusted to the daunting prospect of parking 2 x Ford Focus, & it wasn't the problem we'dRead more feared it might be. Fantastic property with everything we needed for a great break. Very clean and comfortable and great view from the front bedroom. Tea coffee and biscuits on arrival was a nice touch. Ideally located for climbing Skiddaw or visiting the whole Keswick area. Would definitely recommend.

Beautiful setting. Idyllic views. Well equipped cottage.(even an emergency sewing kit available!) Super comfortable beds. Enough kitchen equipment for number of people staying. Plenty of seating in lounge. Thoughtful provision of arrival bits and pieces for cuppas and dishwasher etc Lovely outside table for alfresco eating. Lovely cozy cottage in a great location. Good for walks, ideal for Latrigg and Skiddaw and a short walk from Keswick. Beautiful seating area outside. Well equipped and okay cleanliness but could perhaps do a deep clean (eg cobwebs). Comfortably fit 6 people + dog, space for 8.
