With the ascent of Blencathra starting outside your door and the bustling town of Keswick 6 miles away, there is something to suit everyone here.

This charming holiday property is part of a large stone built barn sympathetically converted into three holiday cottages providing comfortable self-catering accommodation. It is situated in an imposing position at the foot of Blencathra with stunning views across the valley to Threlkeld Common and Clough Head. The start of a walk up Blencathra can commence from the front door of the property.

There is a pub close by offering homemade bar meals, ales and is welcoming to pets and children. There are two more great country pubs in Threlkeld only a mile away, both serving good food and fine ales.

The market town of Keswick is just 5 miles away, reachable by car along the A66 or by a lovely walk, part of which follows the old railway line with wooded areas and passes by the Victorian iron railway bridges. The imposing mountain of Skiddaw is also only a short distance away.

The large private patio area to the front of the cottage has wonderful views across the fells and is south facing. A further BBQ and picnic area is shared with the two adjoining holiday cottages. The cottage is situated in an easy accesible position by the A66 but set high up above it.

The main doorway leads into a large open plan dining room and lounge with comfortable seating and TV, video, DVD player and CD/radio. There is a dining table and chairs to seat up to six people. The kitchen leading off from here is well equipped with electric oven and hob, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, microwave and washer/dryer.

The ground floor shower room has shower cubicle, wash basin and WC

A stairway leads down to the a double and a twin bedroom, and bathroom with bath and shower over, WC and wash basin.

The hallway from this level leads onto the large patio area with table and chairs.

A stairway from the ground floor leads onto the first floor with large double bedroom.

There is an extra sitting out area in the communal BBQ and large picnic area shared with the adjoining two cottages.

Parking is to the side of the properties in a large off-road parking area.

We stayed here in September 2020 and found it ok. Not brilliant but ok for the money. We returned to find 3 years later the place requires some serious uplift with some serious safety issues. Water ingress into kitchen near electrical sockets, not new as I now see listed in previous reviews. Kitchen cabinets blown in that area. Fridge broken insideRead more. Hot water system didnt seem to work properly. Carpets stained and filthy. Basic, standard requirements not met. Hide

The layout and space in the cottage is good. It is right beside the A66 so noisy. Sadly we cannot recommend this property as things we reported last year were still the same and on the Thursday night we found a substantial leak in the kitchen roof and a lesser one in the bedroom. You could see water damage from before. Nothing was done despite contRead moreacting the owner. This property has maintenance and update needs that are not being dealt with. Hide

We have now stayed in these cottages for three years running. The location is very good with easy access to Keswick and different areas of the Lakes. We like that we can have family staying next door - which is difficult to find elsewhere. They are also really spacious with good heating. But, the decor is tired, the furniture sagging and in some caRead moreses falling apart. Each year we have reported the same faults but there have been minimal changes made. Definitely not the luxury option! Hide

Well, we was really pleased with our accomodation at Scales View. Despite it being away from any main urban areas, for us , that was part of the reason we booked it. The views over the countryside and up to Blencathra were breath-taking. The pub , directly behind was very welcoming and had great food and drinks and a lovely working fireplace. Great property for a family holiday. Warm, comfortable, clean. Could do with a bit of attention. Good location if you dont mind the noise from the road. No frills but ideal as a base for a walking holiday. No WiFi and very poor signal. We will continue to use this property, as it is ideal for us as a family.
