The house is beautiful, well appointed, great view from the patio. Short pleasant walk to the village shop, which is excellent. Some great walks from the house, high and low. Unfortunately no trains running when we were there, Stanley force closed and the nearest King George pub closed all of which was very disappointing. Warning the drive is very steep, has a loose surface AND has potholes so you lose impulsion for the slope getting stuck in the ruts. We parked at the Ratty station but the Ratty wasn't running, don't know if they would mind when it is.

Hello Jo, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. It's a lovely place for a relaxing break, isn't it? You couldn't have picked a better location for getting out and about on some great walks. I hope you will plan a return visit to the beautiful Lakes very soon.

Everything was amazing apart from the track leading to the cottage , the track needs a complete overhaul as its too dangerous to attempt in wet conditions and our car suffered damage which has resulted in it being written off by my insurance and now I have lost my 9 years NCB !! If the track is fixed then we would return.

Oh no, I'm really sorry to hear that - the track alongside the cottage belongs to the Lake District National Park and maintained solely as a bridleway. There is a parking space just over the railway line or guests are welcome to park at the railway itself. I'm really pleased you enjoyed the rest of your stay, but I am sorry to hear about your car.

Excellent accommodation, immacualte, modern equipment, close to good walking and the railway (if interested) - only down side is the rough road to the property but the nearby railway carpark is only a short walk away. Our 4th visit to Eskdale and we will probably be back and use Scale End if it is available. Our 11 year old Labrador was very comfortable and relaxed.
