  • Situated almost between Keswick and Cockermouth, two of the Lake District’s loveliest towns
Property code: SZ431

The perfect base for outdoor enthusiasts who will find walking, hiking, mountain biking and water sports on the doorstep.

Situated in the hamlet of Dubwath, at the north end of Bassenthwaite Lake, lies this alluring holiday property, a delightful apartment for four on the ground floor of a lovely Georgian terraced house. Ideally placed to make the most of all the northern Lake District has to offer, this easily accessible spot has wonderful views over Sale Fell to the front and an ideal little patio to the rear where you can enjoy a peaceful glass of wine or two on the lovely Cumbrian Slate bench. Alternatively you can light the wood burner and settle in for a cosy evening while planning your Lake District adventures.

This well-equipped apartment is the ideal jumping off point for a number of activities. If walking is of interest then there are a host of opportunities from the mighty peak of Skiddaw, England’s fourth highest mountain, to Sale Fell of which you have a beautiful view from the dining area of the apartment. If something gentler is to your taste you could enjoy a stately turn around the grounds of nearby Mirehouse, a beautiful historic house with literary connections whose gardens stretch from Dodd Wood to Bassenthwaite Lake. Bassenthwaite has become famous in recent years for their successful osprey programme. It has resulted in the first pair of wild ospreys to breed in the Lake District for over 150 years, you might be lucky enough to see one of these majestic birds while out and about around the apartment.

The property is situated almost equidistant between Keswick and Cockermouth, two of the Lake District’s loveliest towns. Keswick has so much to offer from museums and sight-seeing to adventure centres, festivals and theatre. The shores of Derwentwater lake are just five minutes walk from the centre of Keswick and you'll find a host of places to eat, drink and shop in the town. Cockermouth has a thriving art and folk music scene, excellent places to eat and drink and an array of independent shops. Wherever you go in Cockermouth, the community spirit is strong and the welcome is warm. In short the property is perfectly placed to enjoy all the delights of the northern Lake District.

This alluring holiday property is an apartment situated on the ground floor of a period house. You enter through the well-equipped kitchen which comprises an electric oven and grill, four ring hob, washing machine, coffee maker, microwave, toaster, kettle, undercounter fridge and undercounter freezer.

Just off the kitchen is a small twin bedroom. The beds are normal size but space is quite tight in this room. There is under bed storage and a few hooks for clothes. Please note there is no wardrobe or chest of drawers in this room.

The master bedroom has a king-size bed and wardrobe with drawers. Next to the bedroom is a shower room with enclosure, wash basin and WC.

The lounge, with high ceilings and Georgian style features, has wonderful views of Sale fell, comfortable seating, a woodburning stove, TV, DVD player and dining table which can seat four people. There is a selection of books, games and DVDs in the lounge for you to enjoy.

Outside, leading from the kitchen, is an enclosed patio area with seating where you can enjoy a glass of wine on a balmy summers evening.

The boiler room which houses the oil boiler can also be used as a drying room for wet weather gear if required.

Great location. Recommend eating at Bassenthwaite Lake railway across the dual carriageway. Was worth the 50 for two fry-ups and coffees just for the experience and quality. Would advise to book ahead.

Cottage clean but disappointing that you couldn't accommodate us earlier in daylight hours. My husband had just had a hip replacement 2 weeks earlier and it would have been safer if we could have entered the cottage earlier in the day. But still we had to be out by 10am the next day. A lovely place to stay, perfect location to explore the lakes. More suitable to a family as second bedroom is tight and has no storage.

The accommodation was lovely and we had a great time, but there were some real mice within the property, seen in the kitchen and courtyard on a few occasions. Under the chair in the living room there was also evidence of mice as there were two mouldy baby bottles which has been chewed and were surrounded by mice droppings. I t didnt impact our holiRead moreday but thought you would like to know. Best wishes Jason Hide

Although the cottage is lovely, the neighbours upstairs are very loud and I understand you can not do anything about that as it's it their home... The small twin room is also loud, but I think thats down to it being next to a boiler room ? Just an observation, not a complaint.

Clean and well equipped property, with everything you need for a long or short stay. Stunning views from the front room. Good location. The bottle of wine on arrival was a nice touch, as were the bits and bobs we always forget ( washing up liquid, salt and pepper etc!). Double bed was rock hard. Would stay again.

Lots of pros: Lovely views from the lounge. Good value for money. Great walks both short and long, both easy and more difficult just on the doorstep. Lakes are very close. Coast is not far, Cockermouth is a ten minute drive. Only a few cons: Plagued by flies throughout. The bins are business waste not domestic so there's no recycling or composting.Read more Close to A66 so there's traffic noise. No dishwasher. Whole place needs a deep clean. Very early check-out and very late check-in. Hide

A beautiful cottage which is really comfortable and cosy. Lovely furniture and equipment included, thoughtful too as there were DVDs and books for the children. The view over the mountains is incredible. It is ideally located and within reach of all of the places we travelled to. We will be coming to stay again.
