Rowandene is a picturesque Victorian farm cottage that has been sensitively refurbished to a high standard, comprising of one superking bedroom which sleeps two people. Guests can make use of the two-acre private paddock and fish in the River Cocker, which flows alongside the old mill. Dogs are especially well catered for at Rowandene.
Entry to the cottage is accessed via a set of steps to the front door, via a covered porch. The spacious living room and L-shaped kitchen are both located on the ground floor. The living room has been designed with comfort in mind and features two comfortable two-seater settees, a large arm chair (to sink into with a good book), multi-fuel stove, SkyHD TV and DVD player and a small dining table which seats up to four people. Double aspect views to the front (looking towards the 19th century stone bridge over the River Cocker and paddock) and the south facing rear (towards Grisedale Pike, Hopegill Head, Grasmoor and Whiteside) can be seen from the living room.
The L-shaped kitchen adjoins the living room, with further views of the North-western Fells. The two skylights bathe the kitchen in natural light. The kitchen features an electric oven and induction hob, dishwasher, fridge and washer-dryer, with a microwave and freezer tucked around the corner. An external door leads to a fully enclosed stone flagged patio area, overlooking a beautifully kept lawn area stretching to the river Cocker with the mountains beyond.
Upstairs is the spacious superking bedroom and ensuite bathroom. The double aspect bedroom has generous storage facilities including a double wardrobe and large chest-of-drawers and even better views of the fells, the river and the paddock can be seen from the upper windows. The bathroom is modern in feel and features a bath, walk-in shower, WC and basin.
A private paddock is shared between guests at adjoining cottages and is perfect for giving the dogs a good run around and a dip in the river. There is a footpath that runs from the cottage along the river for the 2.5 miles into Cockermouth to the north and there are ample countryside walks which take in small local villages and pubs. There is a secure area in which to store bikes and ample off-road private parking to the front of Rowandene.
