Property code: SZ423

From strolls along Derwentwater's shore to scaling Lake District giants such as Skiddaw, outdoor enthusiasts will be spoilt for choice with so much on the doorstep.

Set along a quiet street in the heart of wonderful Keswick is this charming holiday property, an elegant Georgian gem for up to six guests, including children and infants. Stunningly renovated with three spacious bedrooms, well-appointed social spaces, a gorgeous walled garden and boasting easy access to everything that Keswick has to offer it really makes a marvellous base to explore this much-loved area on foot. The owners have thoughtfully redesigned the house and garden to retain its period charm while extending and updating to create a luxurious 21st century holiday home.

Keswick is world renowned as a wonderful base to explore the Lake District. It's an energetic and vibrant small town with an atmosphere all its own. There's a twice weekly market, a great selection of outdoor and independent shops, even its own stunningly situated theatre and an art deco cinema just around the corner. To keep young families amused there is an excellent playpark and leisure pool just a short walk from the house while the foodies among you can enjoy a fantastic choice of restaurants, pubs and cafes. The property is also a wonderful jumping off point for exploring the area's rich history with Castlerigg's ancient stone circle a 1 mile walk away and Mirehouse, a stately home with glorious gardens and wonderful literary connections just a short drive along Bassenthwaite's shore.

For the outdoor enthusiasts among you the walking and cycling opportunities are endless. From gentle potters along Derwentwater's shore to scaling Lake District giants such as Skiddaw, it’s all available straight from the door. The property also has storage for bikes, which can be put to good use on the wealth of off-road tracks or some of the quiet roads and challenging mountain passes in the area. Why not make use of glorious Derwentwater during your visit? A picturesque cruise on a heritage launch, a gentle trip on a stand-up paddleboard or perhaps a wild swim might suit. However you choose to spend your time here the property puts you at the heart of all that Keswick has to offer.

Set down a quiet street this charming cottage for six guests has been thoughtfully renovated to make the most of its period features while bringing it right into the 21st century with a light filled extension, stylish decor and modern appliances. Deceptively spacious and boasting delightful outside space it makes a wonderful base from which you can explore everything that Keswick has to offer on foot.

On arrival at the house guests enter the beautifully tiled hallway where there's plenty of boot space and coat hooks for all your outdoor bits and bobs. The gorgeous living space is to the right of the hallway which has been opened up right through to the back of the house. First to the living area. It's welcoming and luxurious with two deep red velvet sofas arranged around the wood burner, ideal for cosy evenings in. For entertainment there is a TV with Freeview and DVD player.

The original wooden floor of the living room gives way to underfloor heated slate as you step up into the superbly updated kitchen and dining area. The owners have extended the room to give a wonderful feeling of light and space with the use of Velux windows, light modern units and full-width bi-fold doors.

The kitchen itself is very well equipped with a large electric range-style oven with five gas hobs, a fridge/freezer, microwave and dishwasher along with all the crockery and cookware you'll need for your stay. The considered renovation even goes as far as the wonderful original sandstone hearth which has been raised so that rather taller 21st-century heads won't be banged while they're cooking up a storm! The large round dining table has been hand crafted by local firm. Placed in the extended area it makes for a convivial atmosphere at meals or during food prep. Having a morning cuppa with the huge doors opened up to enjoy the view of St John's Church spire and the sound of church bells nearby is an absolute treat. There is also a handy downstairs WC just off the kitchen with a specially commissioned stained-glass window as well as a utility cupboard.

Moving back to the lovely Georgian Blue hallway and heading upstairs, take a moment to pause at the large arched window to take in the view on your way. On this first floor you'll find the gorgeous master bedroom, this has a romantic double metal bedstead, decorative fireplace, a large wooden wardrobe, dresser and a wonderful view over Keswick's rooftops to the fells beyond. Dodd Fell, Barf and Whinlatter are just some of the visible peaks and this is an ideal spot to enjoy the sunset too. The room has an elegant en-suite shower room with a mixer shower in a curved enclosure. The second bedroom on this floor is a light elegant double room with antique French style wardrobe and a window seat with a view over the garden and church spire. The spacious family bathroom is on this floor, this has an shower over the bath and more of the stylish classically inspired tiles that the other bathrooms are adorned with.

Heading upstairs to the second floor guests are met with a sweet doorway built into the eaves leading to the magical twin bedroom, it's another large bright space with Velux windows looking out to the church and fells beyond including Clough Head and The Dodds. The upstairs bathroom has a gorgeous 'slipper' bath with shower attachment and a sky-light view filled by the massive form of Skiddaw.

The outside space at the house is no less charming than the interior. The owners have developed a wonderful walled garden with raised beds and a patio for outdoor dining. Within the garden is the former wash-house which has now been updated as a laundry room with washer/dryer and plenty of space for bike storage if you'd like to explore the area on two wheels.

Stylishly appointed with a rich and interesting history to accompany it, this house is spacious and generally comfortable (we would have preferred firmer mattresses) with a well equipped kitchen and beautiful garden. Four (!!) toilets and two showers powerful enough to cope with long hair. Great location and parking easy enough to find in a nearby Read moreroad. Helpful and responsive hosts. We enjoyed our stay and recommend this place to anyone who is OK with stairs. Hide
