Great location. Cottage had a very handy laundry room which was great for the wet days. Shame to have no logs for the fire when you get in late in the day. Also lots of dog hairs on the rugs and carpets. A better animal specific vacuum required. Power went out too but managed to get the electrics back on so may need a check from an electrician of the whole circuits. Would consider again purely for the location

Hi Adam, very many thanks for taking the time to leave your comments. I'm pleased to hear you had such a great time! I’ve spoken with the owners about the issues you’ve raised, and they’re sorry to hear that you found dog hair on the rugs and carpets. They have spoken with their cleaning team about this, so that these points can be addressed. The owners have also advised that the wiring in the property is all new, and the modern trips can be very sensitive, which is great in terms of safety, but I’m sorry to hear that you had to work out getting the power back on during your break. This can be affected by the weather too of course. We’re always happy to help deal with any concerns during your stay, so we would absolutely have been able to get somebody out to take a look at this during your break if necessary. Please always feel free to give us a bell. Whilst some of our cottages are able to provide logs for the fire, it’s not something that we are able to provide for Rose Cottage (Portinscale). Whilst it is stated on our website that logs aren’t provided, we will look at amending the wording of this to make it clear that you’ll need to pick up logs on your way to the cottage. Luckily there are lots of shops not far from the property that sell logs, kindling, firelighters and matches!
It really is a great location, isn't it? Here's to getting away from it all more often!

This was my first stay in the Lake District and I wasn’t sure where to focus my search on. I’m so glad I found Rose Cottage, not only is the cottage itself beautiful, it is in a beautiful part of the Lakes with lovely towns and villages on the doorstep and an abundant of walks, waterfalls, hills and breathtaking scenery all around!

From the moment we stepped through the door we felt at home, you are immediately hit with how cosy and welcoming the living room is, the whole cottage is an absolute delight and I wished I lived here! Rose cottage was completely gutted in 2016 and rebuilt by a clearly talented local builder with uncompromising attention to detail from the owners. This is wonderfully detailed in a photo album that the owners left for visitors.

Portinscale is so lovely and the walk into Keswick from the front door being only 20 minutes or so along a beautiful path was lovely, as is Keswick itself. The Chalet for breakfast and lunch was perfect, the local pub friendly and cozy we found. Everywhere is so dog friendly, its great and Marnie was happy. We didn’t cook in the cottage as there is so many great pubs in the area, but if we did the kitchen was very well equipped.

We shared our week with our daughter and her boyfriend and our Labrador Marnie - there was so much to do in the area, a week is not enough and we were all sad to leave the cottage on Friday.

We would love to stay again, hands down it is one of the most beautiful, warm, cozy cottages we have ever stayed in. A real credit to Fiona and Richard for all of the lovely touches that are everywhere in the cottage, and thank you for the wine and mint cake on arrival, much appreciated x
P.S. sorry for such a long review, it is difficult expressing Rose Cottage in only a few words!

Hi Kathryn, thank you for taking the time to write a review. I'm so pleased you enjoyed your first stay in the Lake District, it sounds like you chose the perfect cottage! It's a lovely place for a relaxing break isn't it? Portinscale is one of my favourite villages in the Lakes, it's lovely and peaceful yet perfectly located for heading into Keswick or exploring further afield. I hope you can plan a return visit some time, you can be sure of a warm welcome.
