We had a lovely week in Rose Cottage. We know the area, so new there were no local amenities so we had a food delivery to the cottage on the day of our arrival, and took other essentials with us.The cottage is a little dated and in need of a bit of TLC here and there, but a beautiful, characterful, warm, comfy, cosy cottage ( but it is actually quite big! ) we had family breakfasts in the kitchen,, a few evening meals in the dining room, so the kitchen had good use and I always had everything I needed. My father in law had the kingsize room with ensuit, he was very happy and comfortable. My daughters shared one of the twin rooms and they loved it as it " sloped " a bit, " like a fun house!" We had the other twin and it was comfortable too! The family bathroom is one of the TLC areas I think. The shower was adequate, but could probably do with updating, its quite small and a bit rickety, also a new lock, or latch on the door would be good, as it didnt work. The owners were lovely, we spoke to Mary when we arrived, she was really nice and helpful. On our visit we ate in The Pheasant, The Kirkstyle Inn and The Bitter End, all fab. We visited Keswick, Cockermouth and did some wonderful, albeit, wet walks. On the whole, Rose Cottage is a lovely place to stay and we would definately recommend!

We had an excellent one week stay at the Rose cottage. It is a stone cottage built in 16th century (352 yrs), set in a very rural location with its own beautiful garden with a mountain view. It is just off the A66 and 4 miles to Cockermouth town, so the location was very handy to explore all tourist places. The cottage was charming, clean, cosy and comfortable. It was spacious and functional to meet our family needs. We looked forward to being at the cosy cottage every evening after a tiring day. I highly recommend a stay here for families visiting Lake District. Owners were very welcoming, they live in the same village, about 2 doors away from the cottage, were always available on phone to help. Few improvements/ suggestions - Mattress needs changing, but it didn’t stop us from having a good night sleep, WiFi signal is available only in living room currently, it can be extended to other rooms if possible, Living room carpets and rug needs changing. One tip - Pls try and reach the cottage before it gets dark on the day of check in, as the Satnav doesn’t get you to the cottage. As it was a small village with few houses, it was really dark and we ended up walking up to check the name of each cottage in the village, before we found Rose cottage .
