The cottage is in a fabulous location with amazing views. The bedrooms are well set up and the kitchen has basic equipment and crockery as you would expect. I did feel that leaving the central heating on for only 4 hours per day in October was a bit mean as we arrived to a cold house. Also the main sitting room only had 5 seats - in a 6 bed house. One of the settees has its back to the window?! With that view? The supposed ‘snug’ is cold and dark and not snug at all, it certainly did not invite any of us in.
Oh, and a rental property where you have to take your own towels? Really?
In all I would say to rent this house if you are looking for somewhere in a beautiful location, but be aware that standards are not particularly high.

Thank you for your review from your stay at Rock How - the views are stunning aren't they?! The owners are more than happy to accommodate extra heating and visitors are given full control of the settings, should they need to change them. If you are ever unsure, just let me know and I can help you out. I am sorry to hear that the cottage wasn't exactly what you were looking for. We do our best to represent the cottage in the photographs and description and it is clear on there that towels aren't provided. The owners feel that they offer a reasonable price for the standard of accommodation provided. Eskdale is such a lovely valley and I am happy that you were able to enjoy this beautiful part of the world!

Rock How is a "Mixed Bag"
The description of the driveway is misleading as our Mazda 3 would not negotiate the driveway which we considered as short but "Very Steep" Whilst the alternative parking was only a short walk away unloading and loading our cases at the bottom of the drive was for our advancing years unwelcome.
Cooker switch for the oven was not always turning off leaving the oven on, unless you turned it off at the mains. This was a concern, and reported to the office in Keswick.
Plenty of good cooking equipment, but it needs a sort out as some of it was not fit for use, and not cleaned after use.
Great views from two nice bedrooms, along with a good bathroom with excellent bath and shower. A proper towel rail would be welcome.
Six adults would find "Rock How" difficult especially with only one bathroom/toilet.

Thank you Vincent for your review - the views from Rock How are stunning aren't they? Such a beautiful part of the world! I have taken all of your feedback on board and in fact the owner has let me know that the cooker is new and the lights will remain on to indicate that the appliance is still hot, so it is a safety feature. I do hope you enjoyed your stay and that you are able to return to the Lakes very soon!

There were some issues when we first arrived as the cottage smelled very strongly of dog and there was dog hair on the sofas, which we cleaned. We have a dog too but this was quite strong. We opened all the windows to air the place and washed the floors, put on the heating and lit a fire which seemed to work.

Also one of the bedsheets on the kingsize bed smelt really bad like it was mouldy. Fortunately we usually take our own bedding, as we don't like duvets, so I was able to remove this sheet and use ours.

Having said that the actual house was beautiful with lovely period features and was set in a gorgeous setting with amazing views of the mountains.

The sofas were a bit uncomfortable but beds were comfy and the kitchen was well equipped and the power shower with constant hot water was great.

The Eskdale area is very beautiful and close to Wastwater which is my favourite lake. There were also some beautiful drives and walks on the road out towards Ulpha and going towards Coniston.

It is quite a long drive over the Hardknott and Wrynose passes to get to Ambleside and Windermere so please consider this if you have not been to The Lakes before and want to visit the more Easterly side of the area too, where there are more shops and villages. Neverthelessless, the passes are spectacular although not for the faint-hearted driver, but still worth it if you are feeling brave!
