Set in West Cumbria, within the Lake District National Park, this welcoming cottage comfortably sleeps four. It’s perfectly placed for sporty guests that love outdoor pursuits.

Welcome to this lovely cottage. Comfortably sleeping four in two bedrooms, with open-plan living areas and set in some of the most majestic scenery you could imagine, there really is no better place to get away from it all. With views towards the famous Wasdale screes and just a stone's throw to the lake (Wastwater), you have all the opportunities for adventure you could wish for. Whether that be water based such as canoeing or swimming, on two legs climbing some of the highest peaks in England or on two wheels exploring the off road trails or some of the most challenging hill climbs you could imagine. For those who like it at a slower pace, then there are lakeside strolls, gentler fell walks and you could always just dip your feet and have a paddle. Whatever floats your boat, you certainly can't escape the peace and tranquillity on offer.

Wasdale is one of the most unspoiled and timeless places in the Lake District. It is a valley of extremes however: Scafell Pike is England's highest mountain, Wastwater is England's deepest lake, St Olaf's is England's smallest church whilst the World's Biggest Liar Competition is held at The Bridge Inn at Santon Bridge... you couldn't make it up, or could you? The cottage sits at the foot of Middle Fell and Buckbarrow, both small fells with rewarding views over the Scafells and out to the coast. Nether Wasdale, a lovely little village with two pubs - one even boasting its own micro brewery - is just a gentle stroll from the cottage. At the head of the valley is home to the Lake District's giants, the Scafells, while Great Gable, Kirk Fell and Yewbarrow all offer exhilarating walking.

There is plenty to keep you entertained in Wasdale but if you wish to explore further afield the nearby valley of Eskdale is home to the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, locally known as the La'al Ratty, a magical narrow gauge steam railway making the 7-mile journey from Ravenglass on the coast to Boot nestled in Eskdale's picturesque fells. Why not spend the day at nearby Muncaster Castle? It's a historic (and, legend has it, haunted) gem set in stunning grounds with lots of events going on for visitors throughout the year. For the foodies among you, the western Lake District also boasts some fantastic eateries and excellent local real ales. Alternatively stay put in the valley and enjoy the peace, beauty and drama of your glorious surroundings.

This spacious two-bed property boasts some of the most dramatic views the Lake District has to offer. The cottage is located at Greendale in Wasdale which houses several properties which are all holiday cottages and apartments.

You enter the cottage into a porch area which is ideal for your coats, hats and boots after a days adventure on the fells. From here, you move into the open-plan living area. Its spacious and has stunning views towards the famous Wasdale Screes on the opposite side of Wastwater. The seating area is nice and comfy and gives you the opportunity to relax with a good book, chill in front of the TV and just gaze out and lose yourself in those those magnificent surroundings. The dining area comfortably seats four and is also the perfect spot for board games or cards after enjoying an evening meal. The kitchen is well equipped and has everything you need for your stay including an electric oven and hob, washer/dryer, microwave, toaster, an under counter fridge and a freezer. The fact it is all open plan means that even when it's your turn to cook, you can carry on socialising: perfect!

Heading up to the first floor, you have a double bedroom which also takes in those stunning views of the Wasdale fells; there is also a built-in wardrobe with shelving. Next to the double room is the twin bedroom with a wardrobe and small chest of drawers. Just outside of the bedrooms on the landing you can see some interesting history of Greendale which harks back to a time when the cottages were actually a restaurant. Also on the first floor is the family bathroom which has a bath with shower over it, WC and wash basin.

Outside there is a communal area to the front of the cottage which is mainly for access to the different properties. Just opposite the cottage, on the other side of the road, is where you will find the parking area. If walking is your thing or just ambling along taking in the peace and tranquillity of it all, you couldn't hope to find a better place to be.

Roan Wood Cottage in Wasdale is a lovely base for walking around Wast Water. The cottage is beautifully decorated and well equipped. It looks out onto the Screes and you can sit in the lounge on the comfy sofas watching the weather and light change by the second. Well worth a visit.

Lovely cottage, extraordinary location near a stunning lake. Not quite as private as the pictures suggest, but the situation could not be better. We would definitely go back.

Lovely place and location. We also loved the excellent selection of mid-00s DVDs. A very nostalgic and nice way to end the day after a long hike, haha.

Great location. Busy road outside of the cottage, so no as peaceful as I would have liked. Beds not as comfy as elsewhere we have stayed. I would say the place could be a little tired & not worth the money we spent. Disappointed with a cottage from Sallys

A cosy well equipped cottage in a remote, quiet location. Short walk to Wast Water. Perfect for exploring the Western lakes, seaside and getting to Scarfell. We enjoyed our week there.

As a first time guest to Wasdale we were in an idylic peaceful cottage, with amazing views, plently of walking, (including Scafell pike) and Wastewater was great for swimming and small boats. However don't expect much else ! The property is very remote, and a weeks stay was too long for us. Muncaster castle is well worth a visit, and we enjoyed fooRead mored at 'The Sawmill' which seemed to be the only modern establishment around. We believe this property was ok for our family, but better for older folk. Hide
