Loved our week in this cottage. Our 5th or 6th Sally's cottage. Never been disappointed yet! The setting was idyllic. A stream running past the back of the cottage with lots of bird life and it was red squirrel central. We watched 3 playing across the stream and the garden was a busy route. The weather was perfect all week which we realise made the week so much nicer. We ate and laid on the big balcony every day. There's not much in Thornthwaite itself except the very nice Thornthwaite Gallery and its tea room but it's so handy for Keswick and Braithwaite and lovely walks from the door including into Whinlatter Forest. The only negative we would say is that the cottage is looking in need of some sprucing up. It didn't bother us particularly though, and there was everything in it that we needed.

Lovely cottage in a perfect scenic location in the Lakes. Loved the outdoor area and the noisy babbling river outside. Bedrooms lovely and comfortable and nicely decorated though out. Kitchen / dominate area was a bit tight - but the weather meant we could eat outside.

Riverside Cottage is magical. The setting is impressive; set by a ravine with terraces down to the river, views to Skiddaw across the valley & just 100 metres from the pathway into Thornthwaite forest with numerous routes to tops, cafes and activities. We had an amazing stay in this traditional, cosy cottage which allowed us to explore many great mountain walks as well as the delights of Keswick and excellent pubs nearby. At the end of every day it was bliss to return to the tranquillity and peace of Thornthwaite. We shall return.
