Riggs cottage was perfect for our needs. Very well-equipped, comfortable and spacious. A spacious well-equipped kitchen. Good provision of books and games as well as TV etc.

The games barn with is a great feature as is the built-in brick barbecue. Lovely garden as well. The welcome bottle of wine and mint cake was a very nice touch.

The mattress in the ensuite double room was too soft for us but we switched to the other double room which was fine and one of the kids had the ensuite.

There is a washing machine and a tumble dryer. One point for improvement - we couldn't find a clothes airer indoors or a washing line outdoors - even though there was a bag of clothes pegs.

The cottage is in a beautiful and quiet location within easy driving distance of Keswick, Cockermouth and plenty of beautiful walks.

There is a folder of walk guides for walks from the cottage.

Overall, we were very happy as it suited our needs very well.

Hi David, thank you for taking the time to write a review. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay, it's a lovely place for a relaxing break isn't it? The games barn is a real bonus, perfect for the occasional wet day we get in the Lakes!
Thanks for your feedback about the airer/clothes line, I'll take a look. I hope you can come back to explore more of the Lakes soon.

Lovely well equipped quirky cottage everything you could need. Great games barn. Lovely part of the Lakes easy access to the Fells and Keswick. Couple of red squirrels and a deer spotted!

The cottage building, Bothy and games room all nice buildings... like the garden and lots of little area to sit.
A few additional amenities would make a lot of difference to the scores and enjoyment of the stay I.e. need to supply canisters in kitchen for tea coffee etc: provide tea-making facilities in the bothy: provide basic equipment to enable guests to clean the fire and ashes.
The “welcome pack” consisted of a bottle of wine and bar of Kendal mint cake - in comparison to the other cottages /holiday homes we use this would not constitute a welcome pack. That said future guests maybe happy with that, we were not.
The initial supply of logs and coal were meagre but more significantly on contact with the company no suggestions / offer was made for us to purchase or have supplied further fuel (happy to pay for it) or even to recommend where we could purchase ourselves.
We had an enjoyable weekend because the company was good, the weather was excellent... the beds were clean and comfortable but the experience could have been better. All of the above have been shared directly with Sally’s cottages in email.

Thank you for leaving a review after your stay at Riggs Cottage. It really is a lovely building and it's great to hear that you have enjoyed exploring everything that it has to offer. I've spoken to the owner about your feedback and this is appreciated. The owner has found that the welcome pack she offers is received well by guests and is sorry that it didn't meet with your expectations. I'm always happy to help a visitor organise something a little different if this is something that they would like to have a chat about. The owner will bear in mind your suggestion for tea and coffee canisters. If these are going to be offered the owner would need to make sure that this didn't compromise the space available in the kitchen. There should be a metal bucket for the ash from the fire so thank you for letting me know about this, I will organise for one to be provided. Our housekeeper goes in after each booking and they always clean the fire as this isn't something that I would expect guests to do while on holiday. The website also offers visitors as much information as possible so they can make an informed decision about the cottage they book. The website lets visitors know that an initial supply of fuel is offered by the owners. I will make sure that we update the Visitor Information Pack at the cottage with local suppliers who are able to provide fuel. The neighbouring property owners are also very helpful and always happy to help. The office is also open seven days a week so visitors can get in touch with any questions they have. Thank you again for your review and I do hope that you are able to visit the Lake District again soon.
