Property code: SZ404

Escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life with this period gem in the scenic western reaches of the Lake District National Park, sandwiched between the Cumbrian coast and Scafell Pike.

A warm welcome to this charming and characterful semi-detached cottage in delightful Eskdale Green. With a wealth of period features, a large garden, glorious views and a gorgeous cosy atmosphere, it makes a wonderful base for a break in this charming valley. The cottage sleeps five people in three comfortable bedrooms, one of which offers flexible accommodation being either super-king-size room or a twin depending on your party's needs. The interior has some wonderful period elements with an open fire, a further wood burner, large leaded windows set into deep sandstone walls and original parquet flooring. The property commands a wonderful position at the mouth of the secluded Miterdale Valley while being within walking distance of a great local pub, the village shop and even a station for a narrow gauge steam railway.

Eskdale is a gem of a valley, a world away from the hustle and bustle of 21st-century life. It has access to the some of the highest peaks in the Lake District for challenging fell walking as well as gentler low level potters. Why not pack a picnic and wander up to Boot via the Eskdale Trail? This lovely riverside amble offers plenty of paddling and wild swimming spots. The cycling in the area is fantastic with easy trails and more demanding bridleways alongside some of the most iconic road cycling in the country. As well as the fun to be had in the great outdoors, Eskdale is also blessed with five great pubs for enjoying a home-cooked meal and a local real ale. A trip on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Steam Railway is an absolute must too. This wonderful narrow gauge railway makes a leisurely trip from the coast at Ravenglass to the foot of the fells at Boot. At the cottage you are just a stone's throw from Irton Road Station where you can hail the train in either direction.

Further afield there's plenty of interest too. Muncaster Castle makes a fantastic day out for all ages. The castle itself is a historic gem with centuries of history, peppered with ghostly tales, to explore. While the gardens make a wonderful playground for children, gardeners and bird watchers alike. Ravenglass, the only coastal village in the Lake District National Park, is a timeless treat with a well preserved Roman bathhouse and railway museum.

On arrival at the cottage, guests enter into the main hallway via the large stone porch with seating and plenty of space for muddy boots and wellies. The lovely wooden-floored living room is to the left of the hall. The period character of the cottage is evident here with its large leaded window with deep sill and charming open fireplace, perfect for cosy evenings in. There is a deep comfy sofa and two armchairs as well as a television with DVD player. Moving back across the main hallway into the welcoming dining room with its traditional tile floor and wooden dining table. Also for chilly evenings there's further comfortable seating with a sofa and armchair arranged around a wonderful wood burner recessed into a sandstone fireplace as well as another television for those of you who don't want to share the remote control!

The kitchen is beyond this which looks out onto Miterdale Forest. It's equipped with a freestanding double oven with ceramic hobs, a dishwasher and an under-counter fridge, freezer and all the crockery and cookware you'll need for your stay. There's a large traditional larder through the kitchen in which you'll find the microwave and washing machine.

Moving upstairs to the light landing to the bedrooms and bathroom. Firstly to the super-king-size room, this can be made up as a twin if you would rather (please advise on booking if you require this). It's a gorgeous space with a decorative fireplace, a wardrobe with drawers and huge windows overlooking the front garden and Muncaster Fell just across the fields. Next to this is the double room which also has a decorative fireplace and a wonderful view up the Miterdale Valley. Lastly, the lovely single room has drawers for storage, an armchair for enjoying a good book and a view over the fields to Miterdale's woodland. The family bathroom has a traditional suite and and over-bath electric shower.

Outside, the cottage has a lovely large garden with mature shrubs, large lawns and dining furniture for making the most of sunny days . There's also gated parking for at least two cars. So if you would like to escape the hustle and bustle of 21st century life in a delightful traditional cottage, this property could be just the place for you.

Loved our stay here. The cottage was great and the garden was beautiful and spacious for our old dog who couldnt do the big walks with us but very much enjoyed chilling out there when we were having a drink. Set in a beautiful area with lots of walking from the front door. Would definitely go back.

3 Rigg Green Cottage is a period property with plenty of space and a lovely garden. We found it comfortable but downstairs is a bit drafty. The cottage is otherwise comfortable and offers two reception rooms both with TVs and log burners as well as central heating. The kitchen is well equipped too.
