  • Charming period cottage in the picturesque village of Eskdale
  • 0.5 miles from the local shop and pub, with hundreds of fell and riverside walks from the doorstep
  • Open fire inside and enclosed garden with valley views outside
Property code: SZ403

In an enviable position in Eskdale Green at the mouth of the Miterdale valley, this historic property is brimming with character throughout, from its stone mullion windows to its open fire.

Set in the picturesque village of Eskdale, this is a lovely holiday cottage providing self-catering accommodation for five people. Handy for both the pub and the village shop, there are also hundreds of walks right from the front door either on the fells or along the banks of the River Esk, which flows from Scafell at the top of the valley down to the estuary at Ravenglass, an old fishing village complete with a ruined Roman bath-house.

The river has natural pools for swimming and is a popular place for canoeing and fishing. The famous Ravenglass and Eskdale Miniature Railway runs along the valley, its steam trains making the leisurely 7-mile journey down to the sea - Irton Road station is also just five minutes' walk from the cottage.

There are five pubs in Eskdale with one, just a 5-minute walk away, all welcoming children and serving real ales and a wide choice of good food. The village shop is just a ten-minute walk away and sells a comprehensive range of goods, including groceries, fresh fruit and vegetables, food to go, alcohol and newspapers. There is some reception for mobile phones on the Orange network.

From the hallway is the sitting room to the right with its open fire and a Smart TV and the dining room is to the left and also has an open fire.

The kitchen is beyond the dining room and is fully equipped with an electric cooker, microwave, dishwasher, washer-drier, fridge/freezer, Nespresso Inissia coffee capsule machine and Aeroccino3 milk frother. There is plenty of storage space here too and the kitchen door leads to the back garden.

The cottage has three bedrooms upstairs: one double with en-suite shower, one twin and one single. There is also an upstairs bathroom with bath and electric shower above and a third toilet downstairs.

There is a patio area to the front of the cottage and at the back there is an enclosed garden with views up the valley.

  • 3 bedrooms - 1 double, 1 twin and 1 single

House is well positioned with views of fells from all windows. Good sized garden, well maintained. Just wish the weather was better but we can't help that!

A really interesting house with some lovely architecture and period features and a large garden for people and dogs. Beautifully situated in the Esk valley, walks from the door and near Irton Road Station for photo opportunities or a short train ride to Dalegarth. Unfortunately the double bed is uncomfortable.
