Ashford, Kent Friends
- We loved Rainbow Cottage - very liveable in with comfy sofas and a decent dining area. Kitchen was just fine and had everything anyone could need. The utility room is a great bonus for coats, boots, dog leads/towels etc. It was a quirky, homely and warm cottage.
We loved having the pub, the Sun Inn, across the road - it was such a treat. Busy from about 5pm to 8pm and then it seemed most people had eaten and drunken their fill and went home so not at all noisy. Pub was very welcoming and friendly.
Bassenthwaite is a gorgeous village, with the stream, ducks and even a village green so our dog could play ball. It was friendly and so quiet after dark. That peace was so welcome.
Just one issue really - please get new mattresses for the beds, the present ones are well past their best and an increasingly aching back every morning wore me down a little. Oh and defrost the freezer compartment in the fridge. Booths in Keswick sell delicious frozen meals but it was difficult storing them in a very iced up freezer compartment.
Great cottage in a lovely location, quiet, friendly, off main roads but close to everything we wanted including fabulous walks straight from the door. It was only the beds and freezer compartment than lessened our score for this cottage. And that the cleaner had forgotten to remove the previous tenants empty new shoe boxes and old magazines left beside the fire which I put in the recycling bin, which consequently made it rather full.

Hello Rona, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. It's a gem of a cottage isn't it? You couldn't have picked a better location for getting out and about on some great walks and peace and quiet! It's always a bonus having a pub on your doorstep - a welcome treat after all that fresh air and exercise. Thank you also for your feedback - I have noted all your comments and I will look into this further. I hope you will return to the Lakes for your next holiday very soon.
