Pottery Cottage is a bright, comfortable and welcoming cottage sleeping 4 people in 2 bedrooms with access to a lovely garden and beautiful views across to Blencathra. A pretty, bright and well equipped kitchen will make self catering easy (when you manage to resist the lure of the pub!) and with a choice of a table in the corner of the lovely lounge or eating al-fresco in the gorgeous garden you are spoilt for choice. The living/dining room is beautifully laid out to form a distinct sitting area facing the TV and the lovely views from the windows, a really cosy place to spend an evening with a glass of wine or two. The bedrooms both feel spacious, have ample storage and lovely countryside views. The shared garden is kept in immaculate condition and offers a variety of seating areas on which to relax and unwind, G & T anyone?
Skelton is a small village a few miles from Penrith; this is a quiet rural area where the rhythm of life is still mostly dictated by the agricultural year. There are many walks you can do from the village through the surrounding countryside; why not walk to one of the neighbouring villages and enjoy a pub lunch or reward yourself with a meal in the Dog and Gun in Skelton when you get back? This pub is well-known locally for its excellent food; discover it now and experience the delicious locally sourced and home cooked food for yourself. The Upfront Gallery is just down the road, or you can walk there across the fields. As well as the puppet theatre, it hosts a variety of events and exhibitions plus a pleasant coffee shop. At the next farm along the road is a handy farm shop for bread, milk, bacon, eggs and other essentials.
If you want to travel a little further afield and explore the wider area then Pottery Cottage is ideally located just a mile or so off the B5305 linking Penrith and the M6 with Wigton, Silloth and the Solway Coast. Have a day out in Carlisle wandering round this compact city full of history; near the castle the lovely River Eden brings the countryside to the heart of the city and offers tranquil walks. Penrith is your closest town, a pretty market town with a range of independent shops plus a choice of supermarkets. Escape the crowds and spend some time immersing yourself in nature on the wild Solway coast; walk, birdwatch or just take a drive around, the scenery is well worth it. The stunning north-eastern Lake District is just a 20 minute drive away, Ullswater is deservedly popular, surrounded by fells which get larger and craggier the nearer the head of the lake you go; Aira Force is just a short walk or tackle Helvellyn from Glenridding. Another obvious target for fell walkers staying at Pottery Cottage is Blencathra, take binoculars and see if you can spot your holiday home from the top! For the less energetic the historic and quirky Hutton-in-the-Forest is only a 5 minute drive away. There is certainly more than enough to do within half an hours drive of Pottery Cottage to keep you busy for a fortnight, a week may not be enough!
