General Description

Poppy Cottage is situated on the peaceful outskirts of the Northern Lake District and sleeps up to three people and two well-behaved dogs. It is a traditional stone Lakeland cottage, serving as a peaceful summer haven or a base from which to launch into the Lake District.

Entry to the cottage is via the side door; it's adjacent planted borders containing the lovely yellow poppies after which this cottage is named. A hallway leads to the bottom of the stairs and the kitchen to the left. The kitchen is small but well equipped, featuring an electric split-level oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher, under-counter fridge with a small icebox and a small dining table cleverly tucked under the staircase. (There is a chest freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer in the wash house outside.)

The living room window looks out onto the quiet School Lane and furnishings consist of a two-seater sofa, two arm chairs, TV, DVD player, CD player, a collection of books, DVDs, games and CDs and a wood and coal-burning stove set within a stone chimney breast.

The bathroom is relatively large when measured against the bijoux nature of the rest of the cottage and features a walk-in shower, basin, WC and bath, which is situated underneath a long window, flooding the room with natural daylight.

The two bedrooms can be found upstairs. Please note, the stairs leading up to the first floor are quite steep and so may not be considered suitable for those who are less-abled. Both bedrooms have wooden floorboards, a wardrobe and chests-of-drawers. The double bedroom also contains a large chest, a decorative feature fireplace and a view of the village over School Lane. The single bedroom have white panelled walls and ceiling, a DAB radio and a fantastic view overlooking the cottage's long garden, meadows and hills stretching towards the horizon.

The garden is easy to underestimate and quite a revelation once seen in full. At first glance, it looks like an attractive, raised level lawned garden, with pretty planted borders and a pleasant picnic bench. However, through a small gate and across a grassy pathway, the garden continues. Here, you'll find the wash house (where bikes can be securely stored), a sun house and more tables and chairs set among a beautiful garden filled with birdsong.

Please note that Poppy Cottage is a non smoking property.
