Otley Beck Cottage is a new but traditional farmhouse-style property set in an acre of private grassland below the beautiful hills and meadows of Lowick Common (owned by the Cumbria Wildlife Trust). The owners built the cottage themselves; an adventure that took them five years of hard graft and love. It is attached to the gable end of the owner’s home and the superb craftsmanship and locally sourced materials is evident throughout.
Walking through the stable door entrance straight into the kitchen the warmth from the traditional Aga welcomes you, and is always ready to go at perfect cooking temperature. Traditionally rendered sculptured walls, slate flooring and oak beams throughout the cottage are pieces of art. The well-equipped kitchen leads onto a small dining area for two and onto the cosy lounge space where an inviting woodburner is ready to go as soon as you arrive. A beautiful oak door leads you to a Victorian style bathroom with a drench shower. A stunning oak stairway leads to a mezzanine bedroom with a king size bed, with a window view over the hills. Please note, Otley Beck is designed with couples in mind and children or infants are not accepted.
The peaceful private garden runs parallel to Otley Beck itself, which attracts herons, dippers and even kingfishers. Nestled in the heart of the countryside, there are views over the meadows and up to Lowick Beacon – a perfect setting for a romantic glass of wine in the sunshine after a day out on the fells or taking in the sites of nearby Coniston or the bustling festival town of Ulverston.
