Property code: SZ377

Enjoying spellbinding views of Bassenthwaite Lake and the surrounding fells, this beautiful traditional cottage has been imaginatively updated to provide gorgeous holiday accommodation for six guests.

This is a luxury character cottage in a prime position beneath Skiddaw, with panoramic views of the Coledale Fells and Barf. The cottage has been refurbished to an exceptional standard to provide contemporary accommodation whilst retaining beautiful original features.

There are three bedrooms to sleep six people: a king bedroom with twin aspect windows, a twin bedroom and a bunk bedroom. The bedrooms have superb mountain views and are furnished to a high standard. The living areas are arranged over a split level on the ground floor to make the most of beautiful original features and the amazing view. There are two luxury bathrooms with modern facilities and contemporary design.

The cottage has panoramic views of the Coledale Fells and Barf, upstairs Bassenthwaite Lake can be seen. The cottage is perfectly situated for enjoying this unique setting and spotting the ospreys that the cottage is named after. There are ample walks from the door, cycling and mountain biking. Keswick is the nearest main town and it boasts a wide selection of independent shops, cafes, bars and pubs. Keswick also has an art deco cinema and a theatre with a varied programme.

The cottage has been refurbished and extended to a high standard blending the striking combination of contemporary decor and original character. There are a couple of low beams at the cottage so just bear this in mind if you are on the tall side! The cottage is arranged over three levels and benefits from superb panoramic views across the Bassenthwaite valley. There are solid oak floors throughout and stylish Bisque radiators.

The front door opens to a hallway with a lovely wooden floor. There is a cloakroom off the hallway with washbasin, WC and space for hanging coats. There are stairs from the hallway to the lower ground floor and a second sitting room with French windows opening onto the patio. This room is decorated in a bright contemporary fashion and is ideal for children and teenagers. It is furnished with a sofa, flat screen TV and Blu-ray player.

On the first floor there is a modern kitchen with an island unit. The worktops are high quality black Silestone quartz. There is a Siemens microwave, range cooker with five rings and two ovens, washing machine, dishwasher, wine cooler and a full-sized integrated fridge and freezer. The kitchen also has a dining table and chairs. There is no dryer but there is an indoor clothes airer and a washing line outside.

There are four stone steps from the kitchen to the main sitting room. These steps are fairly steep and may not be suitable for those with limited mobility. This room is beautifully furnished with a leather sofa and contemporary chairs. An initial supply of wood is provided for the wood burner that sits in the original sandstone recessed fireplace. There is a glazed door to the patio and garden along with two windows commanding a stunning panoramic view of Bassenthwaite Lake and the surrounding fells.

There is a carpeted oak staircase off the sitting room to a half landing where there is a shower room with a large walk-in shower cubicle, WC and large wash basin. The shower room has been finished with Lakeland slate walls. The walk-in shower features deluge and conventional chrome shower heads.

From this half landing, there are several more steps lead to the bedrooms and family bathroom.

On the first floor, there is a master bedroom with a king-size wrought iron bed, wardrobe and views to Bassenthwaite Lake and Whinlatter Forest. This bedroom has a vaulted ceiling and exposed oak beams. Dual aspect windows also offer views to Walla Crag across Keswick.

There is a further twin bedroom and a bunk bedroom both of which have stunning views of Bassenthwaite and Whinlatter. The bunk room has usual sized bunks but may not be suitable for adults. The family bathroom on this floor has a deep bath with a shower over and tiled surround, WC and elegant washbasin. Outside the bathroom is a feature stone wall.

Outside, the cottage is approached from the road via a five-bar gate beyond which there is a gravel area for parking two cars. To the rear of the cottage is a lawned garden, flower borders and a terraced patio with table and chairs. The garden is south-west facing and has an extensive panoramic view across the Bassenthwaite valley towards Whinlatter Forest, the Coledale Fells, Derwentwater and the surrounding fells.

Lovely cottage for a weeks stay, it was well equipped and in a perfect location. The road can be noisy and busy at times, there is a drop in the garden and lots of stairs, so maybe better for older children. My daughter enjoyed the games, Wii and books. We would definitely stay again

Clean and practically fit out as at home, with everything one needs. An absolute recommend for this cottage, the views are stunning, the location for the Lakes is ideal. Wonderful house. The views and garden are the highlight of this place. A lot of stairs and a sharp drop in the garden if you have little ones, so is better for older children and adults. Location is fabulous for walks and pubs.
