Just half a mile from the banks of the sparkling Derwentwater, this charming 18th-century cottage provides a perfect relaxing holiday getaway for a family or couple seeking a quiet Lakeland retreat.

Located in the sought after village of Portinscale is this charming 18th-century retreat for up to four people. The welcoming accommodation includes a well-equipped kitchen and a cosy living/dining room with a feature wood burner. Also on the ground floor is a handy shower room. Upstairs on the first floor, you'll find the two lovely bedrooms, a bunk room and a king-size room with its own en-suite shower room. As well as private parking for two cars and a shed for storing bikes, there's also a delightful patio area with outdoor furniture, perfect for dining al fresco.

Rightly popular with locals and visitors alike, Portinscale is sure to delight. The village boasts a friendly pub just around the corner from the cottage, and a fantastic cafe just a 5-minute walk away. There are plenty of lovely picturesque walking opportunities on offer straight from the front door. From lakeside strolls along the shores of Derwentwater to fells such as Catbells and Causey Pike, there's a route for everyone. Keswick is just over a mile's walk away so why not leave the car where it is and head into town on foot. Indulge in some retail therapy, or treat yourselves to an evening out and take in a film at the local cinema or a show at the renowned Theatre by the Lake.

The cottage has a shed for storing bikes, ideal if you like exploring on two wheels. Head to nearby Whinlatter Forest which has three mountain bike trails to choose from (as well as nine woodland walking trails) or cycle through the beautiful Newlands Valley to picturesque Buttermere; with either Newlands Pass or Honister Pass to tackle, you'll have earned some homemade cake or ice cream from the farm cafe when you get to the other side. Whatever you decide you to do during your stay, the cottage will be a welcome home from home to retreat to.

A useful porch is the ideal place for leaving wet coats and muddy boots before continuing inside this lovely cottage. The fully fitted country-style kitchen is well equipped with everything you'll need for a self-catering holiday. There's an electric oven and gas hob, fridge/freezer, microwave and a dishwasher meaning there's no need to fight over who has to do the washing up! There's also a handy washer/dryer in here should you need to make use of that during your stay. Continue through to the living/dining room. Relax on the sofa in front of the wood burner, perfect for cosy evenings in in front of the fire. There's a TV with Freeview and DVD player for entertainment. The dining area has oak furniture and is a great spot for swapping stories on the day's events over a home-cooked meal, or for spreading out maps and guidebooks whilst you plan tomorrow's activities.

Also on the ground floor is handy shower room. In here you'll find a WC, wash basin and power shower, perfect for reinvigorating tired muscles after a day on the fells.

Upstairs on the first floor are the two lovely bedrooms. First up is the master bedroom, which has a pine king-size bed and handy walk-in wardrobe for storage. This bedroom has its own en-suite shower room (with WC, wash basin and shower cubicle), a real treat. The cosy second bedroom has full-size bunk beds, a useful chest of drawers and has views towards Whinlatter.

Outside to the front of the cottage is a delightful patio. With a table and chairs, equally suited to that first morning coffee or an evening apperitif, it's a lovely spot for sitting out and making the most of the spring/summer sunshine. At rear of the cottage is a second sitting area and also a hose to clean muddy pets, as well as a rotary washing line.

The cottage is in a great location and just a stones throw from the pub . We met a few locals there and were very friendly. Great running routes and mountain bike routes . The shed is great for putting bikes in . The parking was a bit tricky for SUVs but would be fine for smaller cars but we managed OK . Heating was very good

We thought this was a very comfortable cottage and really enjoyed our stay. It is conveniently located for getting around the Lake District. Osprey Cottage is perfectly located! Its an easy walk into Keswick but away from the bustle of the town. The village pub is a stone's throw away and is well used by locals and hikers on the way back from Catbells. It wasn't intrusive to the cottage and we popped in a couple of times. The wood burner was lovely but the handle on the door needs fixing. We also had a problem with the toilet in the en suite, it wouldn't stop running. We managed to sort it but it needs properly fixing.

Nice little cottage in great location for walks. Farmers Arms 50 yds from the door - good for beer and food, and the Chalet down the road for brunches/coffee. Kitchen fine and outside space quite usable. Good showers though a little cramped. Only downside is the parking. The cottage is lovely but furnishings are tired and need fixing. Cleanliness is what let's it down the most. Mirrors with water marks running down them and mold around the shower, and in the dressing room, could be fixed so easily. The heating was set at 15degrees when we arrived and was rather too cold for a very cold day. Some of the appliances aRead morere brand new and very good. Some are so old that they do not work. The TV so old it has a Scart socket and trying to watch DVDs, good luck. Ghosting. Hide
