Olive's Cottage is located in the traditional Lake District village of Braithwaite, just 2.5 miles from Keswick and 10 miles from Cockermouth. The fully refurbished cottage sleeps up to five guests across three bedrooms and is perfect for young children, with its enclosed back garden, which even features a lovely little playhouse for tots. The cottage has been furnished with comfort in mind and includes a smart TV (so you can connect your Netflix account) and outdoor seating area from which to enjoy an early morning coffee or a glass of wine in the evening.

Olive's Cottage strikes an unusual balance: it is situated on a small lane, just a minute's drive from the A66 trunk road, which connects West Cumbria to the M6, yet it is set deep within the Lake District UNESCO World Heritage Site, affording its guests breathtaking views of the Skiddaw and Blencathra mountain ranges to the front and Causey Pike and Grisedale Pike to the rear.  Braithwaite sits between two beautiful lakes, Bassenthwaite Lake and Derwentwater, which can be walked around either in whole or part.

The Lake District has earned itself the title of the adventure capital of the UK.  Nowhere is this more evident than in the lakes and fells surrounding Braithwaite. The end of the lane merges with the bottom of the famous Whinlatter Pass - a daunting challenge for even the fittest of cyclists and hikers - which leads up to the Forestry Commission's Whinlatter Forest. Here, there is plenty of parking, a play trail and holiday activities for children (check out the Adventure Club for full-day childcare that will charge your little ones with a thirst for exploration), Go Ape rope adventure, mountain bike hire and a gift shop. Siskin's Cafe caters for children just as well as it does for adults and the homemade cakes can be enjoyed either inside or out. Towards Keswick, Portinscale is home to a number of marinas that offer kayaking, canoeing, dragon boating and rowing on Derwentwater. A huge variety of walks are available from the doorstep of Olive's Cottage and mountain guides can be hired for anyone wishing to make the most of the area.
