Built in 1713, The Old Post Office (Dacre) is a snug Cumbrian getaway located in the charming village of Dacre inside the UNSECO World Heritage Site of the Lake District National Park, just a few minutes' drive from Lake Ullswater. Sleeping four guests across three bedrooms, the cottage has been lovingly refurbished to a modern country style and boasts characterful exposed beams, deep comfy armchairs and a wood burning stove.

Dacre is a tranquil haven of a village which has an excellent local pub and a 14th century castle. Less than five miles away is an Alpaca centre with its own clothing outlet and Rheged, which is an award winning visitor attraction boasting quality shops, an art gallery, restaurants, a deli, soft (and hard) play and a gigantic 3D cinema. Within a six mile radius of the cottage sits Penrith, an attractive Cumbrian town which is the hub of the Eden Valley, and Dalemain, a beautiful Georgian mansion and gardens with a rich history dating back to Saxon times.

If exploring the stunning natural surroundings is more to your taste then you are perfectly placed to indulge. The head of Ullswater Lake is just two miles away, opening up a world of activities to enjoy. The Ullswater valley has some of the most stunning scenery in the Lake District with a wealth of walks and cycle rides to choose from. Alternatively the crystal clear waters of the lake provide plenty of activities to enjoy. Why not hire a kayak or rowing boat and find a secluded beach to enjoy a picnic? If something more stately is to your taste, you could take gentle serpentine cruise on an Ullswater steamer soaking in the stunning scenery while enjoying a drink from the on-board bar.
