Oaks Apartment is a bright, cosy retreat for 2 people with an amazing location high in the Newlands Valley. Keskadale is the last farm before the top of the pass and has the privilege of beautiful views back down the valley as it nestles between the towering fells. Both the bedroom and living/dining room in the apartment have windows taking full advantage of these views which can be enjoyed at your leisure. Relax in the warm homey living area with the electric stove on in winter and in summer you can really feel part of the landscape with a meal al fresco in the garden. Oaks Apartment offers an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life providing a haven of tranquillity in an inspirational landscape. Keskadale is a working mixed farm and there is always something going on; immerse yourself in this timeless atmosphere which is still driven by the changing seasons.
The Newlands Valley is in the heart of the northern Lake District surrounded by some of the most popular walks in the area. Still full of family farms, this working landscape provides a sylvan foreground to the fells behind and offers a variety of lovely valley walks as well as a huge choice of fell walks. The fells rising steeply up behind the farm are Ard Crag and Rigg Beck, slightly off the beaten track compared to other fells in the area they were a favourite of Alfred Wainwright providing a glorious ridge walk which you can do from your door. For a bigger challenge take on the Newlands Horseshoe starting with Cat Bells and finishing on Robinson from where you can conveniently drop back down to Keskadale via Newlands Hause. Being located on the challenging Newlands Pass Oaks Apartment is also a great location for cyclists with circuits of Newlands and Honister or Newlands and Whinlatter on the doorstep.
Newlands Pass links Braithwaite with Buttermere and Oaks Apartment therefore has easy access to both. The nearest pub is 2 miles away in Swinside offering good food and a pint with a view; there are also pubs in Buttermere and Braithwaite to try and of course many different cuisines are on offer in Keswick, about 20 minutes drive away. Keswick is also the starting point for a boat trip on beautiful Derwentwater where you can alight at any of the landing stages around the lake to explore before re-joining the boat later on. It is also home of the popular Theatre by the Lake and a family run cinema for easy evenings out. Adventurous guests should visit Honister, just a short drive past Buttermere and up the dramatic Honister Pass this working slate mine offers underground tours and the brave can take the challenge of the Via Ferrata high up on the crag. Cockermouth, Loweswater and Borrowdale are also in easy reach from Oaks Apartment so there is plenty to keep you busy for a week or more.
