Situated on the fringe of the welcoming coastal village of Allonby, this bright and cosy property is perfect for a couple discovering the Solway Coast and the northern reaches of the Lake District.
Forming part of an impressive Grade II-listed former Almshouse, this is an intriguing property with stunning sea views across the Solway to Scotland beyond. It enjoys a prime position just across the road from the beach at Allonby, a charming seaside village on the beautiful Solway Coast.
Walk from the cottage door down to the sea, enjoy a bracing walk along the beach before treating yourselves to fish and chips and an ice cream in the village. The Solway Coast is renowned for its stunning sunsets, so remember to pack a flask and enjoy a hot chocolate whilst taking in the evening sea air. The Cumbrian Coastal Way passes through the village, or you can take in a round of golf at Maryport Golf Course - try not to get too distracted by the view!
For those interested in history, there's certainly plenty on offer nearby. Fans of maritime history should head to the harbour towns of Maryport and Whitehaven, or spend a day in the border city of Carlisle where you can learn all about the area's Roman heritage at the fantastic Tullie House Museum. For those who'd prefer to indulge in a bit of retail therapy, head to the Georgian market town of Cockermouth or bustling Keswick for a great selection of outdoor and independent shops.
The accommodation is all laid out on the ground floor. Off the spacious entrance hallway, you'll find the kitchen on your right. Compact but well equipped with all the essentials you'll need for a self-catering holiday, there's an electric fan oven and hob, fridge-freezer and a handy microwave as well as the requisite kettle and toaster. The lovely views over the surrounding countryside from the sink mean you won't mind doing the dishes, and there's also a useful washer-dryer should you need to make use of this during your stay.
On the opposite side of the hallway to the kitchen is the modern shower room with a WC, washbasin, and large shower cubicle, ideal for a refreshing shower after a long day out exploring.
At the front of the cottage is the fantastic living room. A space-saving fold away table and chairs mean you can easily set up a spot to enjoy your meal before tucking them away again. With two two-seater sofas, it's the perfect room for relaxing evenings in. There's an electric fire and a TV for entertainment too - not that you'll need it much with the stunning and ever-changing view of the sea and Scotland beyond.
The spacious bedroom is light, bright and airy thanks to the fantastic large windows and high ceiling. The sea view from the double bed is a real treat so why not bring your cuppa back to bed and indulge in a long lie in? You are on holiday after all! There's also plenty of storage in the stylish built-in wardrobes.
