Beautiful location just a short walk from the shore of Buttermere. My 9 and 11 year old loved playing in the brook by the house, watching the sheep and swinging on the rope swing.
Very comfortable cottage with lovely decor. This is one of the best equipped cottages we have stayed in. The owners have thought of everything. The drying room came in very useful for wet boots and waterproofs. The cottage was ample size for seven of us. The only negative is the oven is small. Probably unlike a lot of people we like to cook when away and struggled juggling dishes for 7 with a single oven.
I loved the print photo above the fireplace and the other personal touches. Truely a home from home.

Hi Caroline, thank you for your review. I'm so pleased you enjoyed your stay at Bowderbeck. It's the perfect place to get away from it all isn't it? A real home from home, and what a stunning location!
I appreciate your feedback about the oven and have passed this on to the owner for consideration, thank you. I hope you can come back to explore more of the Lakes soon.

We loved the location of the cottage - we had not stayed in the Buttermere area before and liked the close proximity to the lake via the footpath.
We stayed there with one other couple, so we had plenty of room.
The welcome pack was a very nice gesture and much appreciated.
We were interested in the history of the house and thought it had been very well preserved and extended. We especially like the balcony area.
Our one criticism was the fact there was space for only one car and we had to leave our car at the Chapel. We were told the farmer had to have access, but we didn't see him use the path at all while we were there.
On a personal note - we were interested to know if the black and white photo over the fireplace was the present owner with her Grandmother? It was a lovely photograph.

Thanks so much for your feedback, Wendy. Buttermere's one of my favourite lakes so I'm extra pleased you enjoyed your stay! I've made enquiries and you're absolutely right! Bowderbeck's been in the family for three generations and the photo is of Kate, who now owns it, and her granny! It's a real family touch, isn't it! On your other point about the parking, apparently the lane's a public bridleway so can be used by walkers and the local farmer at any time. It's ok to park two cars outside the cottage if you're in - and especially when you're loading and unloading - so that you can move one if necessary. The farmer uses a quad bike so needs enough room to get through, and the number of times he uses the lane depends on the time of year and where his jobs take him! I'll ask Kate to check this explanation is still in the visitors info and hasn't disappeared! I know she likes to keep it up to date and make sure her visitors have a great stay in this rural idyll. Come back soon!

What a fantastic cottage. An amazing location with a sunny verandah and amazing views. Inside an effective blend of contemporary and traditional features - all to a high spec. Really practical for walking with stone floors and great drying rooom

We give a 9 for comfort and equipment because the towels could have been bigger and a second hand towel per person would have been welcome.
