Bowderbeck is an eco-friendly cottage which sleeps up to eight people and is situated on the shores of Buttermere in a stunning location. Views of High Stile, Red Pike, Goat Crag, Buttermere and Crummock Water are all available from inside the cottage. Guests are greeted with a welcome pack containing locally sourced goodies from Croft House Farm Cafe located in Buttermere village.
The entrance to Bowderbeck is a public pathway for fell walkers and those enjoying the benefits the countryside has to offer. After walking through the gate into Bowderbeck's beautiful garden, there is a deck terrace complete with garden furniture where you can sit and take in the outstanding views of Buttermere and Crummock Water.
Entry to the cottage is accessed via the terrace and opens into a hallway, with an en-suite king size bedroom on your left and a cloakroom on your right. The cloakroom is spacious and has ample storage for you to keep your muddy boots and bikes after a long day on the fells.
The double bedroom features a huge window to enjoy the view of Buttermere, Crummock Water, High Stile and Red Pike right on your doorstep. Grazing Herwick sheep can be seen in the fields and woodland in the foreground. The bedroom room has a double wardrobe, a chest of drawers, two bedside tables and an armchair which is perfect for curling up with a good book. This room is complete with en suite wetroom and walk-in power shower, featuring slate floors which echo the geological surroundings of the house.
The door straight ahead in the hallway leads to the double-aspect living room, which is comfortable and spacious, with a stunning view down to the lake and seating for eight people. The wood burning stove is the focus of the room for those wintery nights when you need to keep warm and toasty after a bracing day on the fells. There is no TV, as there's no reception due to the mountainous location of Bowderbeck, but there is unlimited wifi and plenty of books, playing cards and a whole cupboard of board games and jigsaw puzzles in the dining room to keep you occupied! There's even toys for the kids!
Moving into the retro-style dining room, there is a large table in the centre of the room, with uphostered chairs for eight people. The window seat faces the barn.
The kitchen is accessed via the living room. A dainty kitchen, it has deep modern worktops, an electric oven and separate hob, microwave, fridge and dishwasher. There is a large utility room/pantry across the hall from the kitchen, complete with a freezer, washing machine, ironing board and iron. There are plenty of cabinets there for you to store your things, and a beautiful view of the garden stream.
Climbing the old slate steps to the first floor, you will find a single bedroom, a family bedroom containing a double and a single bed and a twin room (with two beds which can be pushed together).
The single bedroom has a porthole window looking out onto the garden and a skylight to give the room a light and airy feel. There is a chest of drawers and hangers for you to hang your clothes; the family room is large with a view of the barn, hooks with hangers for you to hang your clothes and two chests-of-drawers. The third room contains two single beds which can be pushed together to make a double. This room has two chairs, a clothes rail, a chest-of-drawers and a large antique chest storing toys and blankets.
The first floor features a separate WC, a bathroom with a bath and WC, and a separate shower cubicle room. This is great for lots of people sharing, as queues for the bathroom and WC are significantly reduced!
The garden is perfect for those wishing to enjoy the countryside: Bowderbeck (the stream) runs through the garden. The garden is surrounded by a small dry stone wall  (with a section that may not effectively contain unaccompanied children or dogs!).  The view across the lane is of Goat Crag (with High Snockrigg and Robinson beyond) and there are stunning views down to the lake and across the valley to the majestic Buttermere fells (High Stile and Red Pike).
Bowderbeck is powered by a biomass heating system and the owners provide ecological cleaning products for guests' use. They are keen for guests to look after the idyllic valley and visitors are encouraged to be considerate of the beautiful environment around them during their stay.
