South Norwood, London Family
- Key How is well located for a quiet holiday. The neighbours were all very pleasant and made us feel very welcome. The local shop is good for basics. We had some very good hearty meals at the George IV pub and did a lot of walking, both locally and a little further away. We did follow the advice for not following the satnav route through Hardknott Pass to get to Eskdale, but on a day trip we went that way. It was exhilarating, scary, but beautiful and well worth the hard drive. However we did find some faults with our booking. On the website it does not say anything about towels not being provided. On making our final payment it said we need to bring our own towels, but on arrival at Key How there were towels on all of the beds. It mentions on the website that Key How does not have Wifi, but it does not mention that the mobile service is non-existent for anyone other that those using EE. Fortunately for us 2 of our group have EE, as it would have been even more difficult when our car broke down and we needed to call the RAC, to arrange recovery of our car and then the travel home. On our arrival we had to contact Sally's Cottages as we found the used linen still in the main bedroom. The freezer was switched off, this meant it was not clean and some of the drawers had mould on them which need to be cleaned before we could use it. On a more practical note we felt that the small bedroom needs some more storage space, maybe some shelves and the cottage needs more electric sockets. Overall we felt that the cottage it the ideal size for a family with small children but not one with adult sized ones or for two couples.

Hi Janet, thank you for taking the time to write a review. I'm so pleased you enjoyed your stay at Key How Cottage. Eskdale is lovely isn't it? Much quieter than other parts of the Lakes. Well done for tackling Hardknott Pass, it's not for the faint hearted!
I'm so sorry to hear about the mix up with the towels, I hope it didn't cause you too much inconvenience. It's a good point about the poor mobile reception, we'll bear this in mind when reviewing the cottage information.
I'm sorry to hear that your car broke down during your stay, you can do without that on holiday!
The owners would like to sincerely apologise for the issues with the used linen and the freezer and also that some of the cleaning wasn't up to scratch, They are also looking at improving the storage and space arrangements in the small bedroom for next season. I really hope this didn't spoil your stay and that you make it back to explore some more of the Lakes very soon.
